Question Those of you that got pay cuts over the past couple of years....

I know GM gave back the pay cuts they took from some of their employee's and some I know even got a raise recently.

Anyone else get back what was taken or are some of us just stuck with a new lower payrate?

I asked the owner of my shop if we would be getting our paycut back in the near future, but he said something has suddenly come up and he took off running and didn't answer my question. 3 times now.....

took awhile (about 8 months) but I did get it back..along with health insurance which was HUGE.

I feel for ya Dave....bad enough we (our generation in our line of work) have had stagnant pay rates for about 15-20 years....now we are expected to do the same job for even less pay.

I know when I started guys were making what I'm making roughly, had free high quality health insurance, and this thing called a pension....

The skill sets I have take at least 8 years hands on to acquire, including the 4 years of school...and places tried to tell me that 15 an hour is what they can offer...

yes I took some 15 an hour jobs when I had too...but it's tough playing dumb for too long.

I'm not in the automotive field but took a 2.5% pay cut last year and will be taking another 2.5% pay cut this year. And all the talk around the office is pointing to pay cuts again next year. Before last year, we hadn't gotten raises of more than about 1% in as long as I can remember.

My only hope of increasing my pay at my current employer is to get a promotion from within. Unfortunately, we have also had a hiring/promotion freeze in place for about 3 years so even when somebody quits or retires above me, most of the spots remain unfilled...

I left the auto industry last month and took a pay cut to do so. Got my 30 day review on Monday and got it all back, plus some. Today, at the team meeting, we got our paid time off doubled, and the boss said "We're looking into better insurance, and also looking to pay more of your premiums. We're also upping the 401k contribution by $.50 on the dollar".

Fuck the auto industry, and then fukc it's mom, and don't call either of them back.

the job i work started me at 10.50/hr. after my 90 days i got the .50 raise i was promised. the other guys i work with got 25% taken from them 8 months ago. they just got 5% back 3 weeks ago. they were making 21/hr now they only make like 16/hr. and have to do twice the work cuz they got rid of a bunch of people.
what that means for me is i probably won't ever get a raise.

Last fall I lost about 30%. Then in December I lost the other 70%. Got laid off.
Right now I'm at about 75% of where I was last year, but that is working a job that is 150 miles from home.

well when I worked down town in the 3rd year we had a 20% paycut and cut benefits.
2 years later when things picked up again we were told that the cuts were going to remain permanent so I got another job. it is very difficult to get that money back. once the ownership sees that the employees still show up for work they figure "why should I give it back, they're still working hard"

About 4 years ago the whole company took a 15% pay cut. I wound up getting my 15% back and two raises since then. But, the only way I was able to get any of it back was by putting my two weeks notice in when better jobs came along.
