Default Bill introduced to almost double regstration fees

And over double many others
http://www.michiganvotes.org/2010-HB-5897
Quote:
Introduced by Rep. George Cushingberry (D) on February 24, 2010, to increase the annual vehicle registration tax rate by 90 percent for autos and light trucks, and 20 percent for heavy trucks, and also add an extra $7.50 additional fee for each vehicle. The tax hikes would be phased in between 2012 and 2014, along with other revisions in details of the tax schedule that have the effect of extracting more revenue from vehicle owners. The bill also increases the tax on license-plate transfers by $22, and the annual tax on historical vehicles by $24.

I don't mind some increase in fees due to inflation but this seems alittle much.

My 6 year old H2 plates were $200+ I seriously doubt this guy has put much thought into how many people this will drive out of the state? if a family has 4-5 cars it would be a couple grand to plate them all...screw that.

I'm curious as well. That's a pretty steep hike, someone must need money bad.

I think thats great, it should be more. That way we can separate the wealthy from the balance of the population a little faster.

Well, I imagine they need a way to cover their asses... I need to do some research, and keep forgetting to - I have heard that the state of Michigan employs almost more people than all the private jobs COMBINED.

What would the money be used for? Wouldn't it be easier to cancel yearly registrations altogether and instead increase the gas tax?

We can vote this clown out this year as well...

http://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.ph...shingberry,_Jr.

Check out the part about "Roll call votes, bills introduced, and floor amendments". A whole lot of tax increases, new fees, spending and borrowing.

And this aint the end of it either.

Wait for a few more weeks when they introduce new legislation to increase everybody's ORV stickers in Michigan from 16.25 to 30.50 and than ask for you to pay an additional 18.00 for a three year registration sticker too.

Screw these legislators!
