Default Need help in Windows 7 setting up an external monitor for my laptop...

I got a 24" Acer widescreen monitor the other day, and still haven't been able to get it to work right (I have now narrowed it down to the problem being settings on my computer).

The laptop is model no. DV4-1313dx, graphics card is Radeon mobility hd3200. Hooked up via HDMI cord.

My problem is the settings in my Display properties, I've tried all different settings, but cannot get the picture on the monitor to display properly. I finally got it to run at the full resolution (1920x1080) BUT....

When I hook it up, there is about an inch worth of screen on the top, bottom, left, and right of the display that's not being used. When I hooked my computer up to my LCD HDTV, I never had the issue. But now when I hook it up to my TV (which previously worked perfectly), I'm also getting those lines on the top, bottom, left and right that aren't being used.

WTF am I doing wrong/what setting could have been changed so that it won't utilize the ENTIRE screen?

I'll go try to get pics to show what I mean...

This is what I'm talking about. It's on the top, bottom, left, and right... of any display I set it up to.

Why would that be? So on my 24" monitor, I'm getting more like a 20" viewing area. On my 42" monitor.. I'm getting like 39"-40" viewing area. Before, the display would fill the entire screen.
