Here's how you handle the mideast.

First, these people are not like us, accept that. I should know, I've been married to one for 21 years.

Second, if we are going to put our most precious resource (the people in our military) at risk, we don't do it half-way. The whole point of war is bringing about change through the infliction of massive pain.

When we fought Germany in WW2, we saturation bombed urban areas and incinerated 1000s of people (look into the attack on Bremen). Was it because we were racists and hated people who looked just like us (in most cases, based on 1940s demographics)? No. It was because we were at war with Germany. We weren't just at war with Hitler, or the Nazi party, or just the military - we were at war with the entire country. Likewise Japan and the special weapons releases at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Why?

By inflicting enough pain (personally, physically, and economically) the country would either collapse totally, the leadership would surrender, or the citizens would get fed up and turn on their leaders.

That's war. It's a violent, ugly business that looks bad on TV.

So if we (or anyone else) enters into a fight in the mideast, it's "shock and awe" until there's nothing left. Guerillas set off an IED and kill a Marine, we wipe out the entire city it happened in. They kidnap a soldier and torture them, we wipe out another city. We don't conduct a ground war - we own the air, so use it to our advantage. Let the citizens know that by protecting and and sheltering combatants, they are exposing themselves to risks up to and including annihilation. They understand and respect strength - and see weakness behind every Sean Penn factfinding visit, Cindy Sheehan press conference, and "where's the WMDs?" congressional debate. They're counting on our attention span being too short - and by continuing to chip away at us, we'll lsoe interest and leave.

Shades of Nazi Germany, but this is prolly a great opportunity to end the Crusades (The total elimination of the Muslims).

Remember, only mushrooms can grow in the desert.

As bad as it is I have to agree with you here. War is messy let the military do thier job and be done with it. If your not willing to deal with the mess of it you shouldn't be fighting the war.

That being said, this conflict is not our place. I understand having allies. but as a military right now we are already stretched to thin...Isreal does not need our help and to be honest I have no desire to help isreal. I dont think they've given us any help for all of the money and lives we've invested over there have they ?

well i think they are our only REAL allie in the middle east. The one who won't cut and run when it gets hairy or who's people wont turn into lemmings and not fight their "muslim brothers" (like that ever stoped them in the past). Isreal gives us a military base in the middle east that wont turn on us. The suadis play nice with us but they dont mean it. Isreal means it.

Yeah they mean it cause if we didnt back thier asses they would be a much weaker country. We made them the power they are.

Speaking of the middle east has anyone else heard that Iran basically said the only way that region would see peace if someone (IE themselves) blows isreal off the face of the map ?
