Might go check out a '97 F150 with the 4.2L V6.

Any common issues for these first year new model truck, or otherwise?

Edit: I guess it doesn't really matter that much, this thing is over 10 years old and still on the road.

The 4.2L V6 is known for blowing head and intake gaskets. Early years, like the one you're looking at, also had bad timing cover seals that leaked coolant into the crankcase. There are a few other problems as well. Just google it and see for yourself. I've heard of people driving them with little or no problems, but I've also heard of those that have nothing but problems. I consider the 4.2L V6 a pathetic replacement for the 4.9L straight six, but then again I prefer my sixes inline.
