Default 2000 7.3L Charging System

My batt light is on and the truck is not charging. I pulled the alt and it was tested good at two different places. Pulled the battaries and they both tested good.

I am getting 12v at the back of that Alt which should be putting out 13.5-14v like it was on the bench when tested.

Whats going on? Is there something in the truck that tells the alt to charge? The guys on the Powerstroke forum tell me to replace my Alt which I'm about to do just to see but if it tested fine on the bench then why would it not be working right on the truck?

Sincerely,
Confused in Cincinnati

what happens when you connect a ground wire from the alt housing to the negiative side of the battery?

see if the voltage goes up.

Also there is a green wire that tells the alt to put out some juice. Not sure where it is on the newer trucks, by on my 95 it is by the battery. A 1 wire quick disconnect. Mightwant to call the dealership to get a pic or idea where it is.

good luck

I didn't try to ground the battery to the alt. I'll try that. The plug going into the Alt has a green and a red wire. I unplugged it thinking it might bump up the volt and it didn't but the light on the dash went off.
