that sucks but yet doesn't surprise me. after just today going to work then bring my gf home the snow really does make people retarded and not know how to drive. 3 spin outs on the way to work in a 35 zone, then going to drop my gf off some dipshit was sitting sideways across her road with his foot firmly planted on the gas 6K on the tach 100+ on the speedo going no where. i stopped and bitched him out for being a dumbass then pushed him to get going. it's michigan and we get alot of snow. are they really not teaching shit in drivers education anymore?

I don't believe in vehicle inspections, but snow tires should be mandatory for the morons who think it is the county's responsibility for their safety. Went from my Heep with 4 new snow tires to car with 4 newer all seasons and had to totally adapt my driving style to keep from sliding. Vehicle maintenance and control is a lost art (if it ever was one...)

yeah how about citations for "driving too fast for road conditions" like i got earlier this year while i was doing the posted speed limit in the snow.

lets hear how fast said vehicle was traveling, and if all passengers were wearing seat belts.

let's hear the part about people blaming the mother driving, as they would do to the driver if it was a younger kid.

adapt your driving style to the road conditions, and be aware of your surroundings. no one's fault but the driver of the vehicle.

but it is sad they had to go so young, because it was not the student's fault.

This is sad..no need to point fingers or argue. It was an accident. I do not believe the state is responsible for not taking any necessary precautions in this accident. If so i hope they work on it. It is terrible things like this in life have to happen. That is all.

But i do feel like if i had to say a complaint about this winter driving situation. I would say it seems like taxes go up and never down but services the state provides rarely seem to improve or increase despite tax increases or previous years of better services IMO.

-One example i hear every time my dad goes to the high school football games he says "This stadium was built new 4 years ago. The city said they would raise taxes by X amount of dollars for 3 years to pay off the X amount of million dollar cost of building the stadium. It has been 4 years and taxes have increased every more and im still paying for this stadium".

In a brief summary this is what i hear from him.

I live about a mile away from where this happened and was curious why the roads were unusually backed up this morning on my way to work even for as hard as it was snowing. I can't even imagine how the mom must feel right now knowing that her own actions killed three kids.

dang, you got out of your car and looked into his window at the dashboard? that's an interesting thing to do. especially in the middle of a snow storm on bad roads.

Thumbs down stupid people

first of all my condolences to the families, i know nothing can ever prepare for this and nothing will ever make it feel ok, i've been there.

the saddest part of this whole story is that we are getting some big mouth ignorant hicks whose sole purpose in life is to point fingers. I dont know if any of you go to town meetings, and other political events, but if you start, or you have, mark my words. Spot the one blaming michigan's problems on how much money the state is getting back from lottery sales, and then you'll spot some of those bigots posting stuff on the newspaper site.

let's be honest, we are all hobbyist of some sort with out four wheel drive vehicles, we also know, ice doesn't care how many driving wheels you have. Come on, I was born and raised in mexico, and i know this.

not to pass judgement on anybody, but ultimately, all accidents can be attributed to human flaw in some way. Ive only lived in michigan for 12 years, which is nothing compared to others, however since i was 12 i knew that ice was slippery, so when i started driving, and possibility of icy conditions occur, i drove carefully.

anyway, i'll stop before i rupture your ocular blood vessels...

A snow day? Why?

This was a freak little snow burst. I have talked to quite a few people here at work, living in that general area that had the same stories. One minute, no snow, the next minute 2 inches. OK, maybe not that fast, but it was a quick snow storm that blasted through the area.

And at the end of it, what did they get, a couple of inches?

If schools closed everytime there was a chance of a couple of inches of snow here in Michigan, there would be no summer vacation as the schools would be making up all those days.

This is Michigan, we get snow, learn to deal with it.

Shit happens, even to those that are careful, it is sad, but it is fact.

I live a couple of miles away, we had 4 inches, but it was very light/fluffy. Not out of the ordinary, and not anywhere close to what we would normally have for a snow day.

Where the accident happened, its a long sweeping curve, two-lane road, cars are going ~50 mph in each direction, so closing speeds are very high, and there aren't big shoulders on that section, so cars are close to the centerline. Its also on the east side of a lake and the wind makes the road slick.

Accidents happen. In some places, that means you end up with a fender bender. In some places, it means severe collisions. This case was the latter. The driver of the car is at fault, she lost control and paid for it. Regardless of how bad the snow and ice is, its your responsibility by law to drive slow enough to be safe, or stay home.

It's definitely Granholm's fault for not seeding clouds over Michigan to prevent the snow. I'm glad she'll be gone soon.

They should also sue the manufacturer of the fan for not making it safe enough.
Then sue the gas station that sold them the gas that let them drive down that road.
Then sue the school for not canceling school if the road were that bad.
x2.

Horrible tragedy, but if they really want to blame the system, enforce more requirements to have a driver's license instead of handing them out like candy.
