FWIW national city is completely converting to PNC bank which i had in NJ for a short time and they sucked even worse. they won't work with you, customer service is of no help.

this year the day before thanksgiving day i ran out of money due to bills having to be paid or they do something called turning the service off...but you rich folks have never been in that situation before apparently. anyways i called national city and asked for a grace period before charging me overdraft fees cuz i had $300 cash to put in the bank friday morning. know what they said. sorry can't help you have a nice day...real customer service would have said yea let me see if i can do anything about it.
Switch to Chase or BoA. You can deposit cash at on ATM directly into your account like a vending machine.

I have Chase and so far no problems. I had a lot of crap from Wells Fargo, but that's not for you to hear, because frankly I don't think there are any Wells Fargos around you.
From what I have learned, once you have barely any money in your main account from any bank, be very careful. I haven't touched my bank in a while, because I have like 11 bucks in there. At least have like 30 dollars in there just to be safe, I try to as much as I can.
When I had Wells Fargo I got screwed a lot for stupid things like magically being overdrafted a few cents. Then that few cents turns into a fee of like 36 bucks. It doesn't add up in my head, I'd have like 5 bucks in there, spend like 4 dollars and some change, and get overdrafted. Even Bigcountry math can't prove 4/5ths of dollars leads to overdrafting.

I have my savings and checking account at our local credit union. (Dow Chemical Employees Credit Union) I was able set up my accounts so if I did overdraw my checking account than the money would be transferred over from my savings account to my checking account. You're only allowed X amount of transfers per month, but I don't have to worry about overdraft fees. I also check my account at least once or twice a day at minimum for the exact reason why you're complaining.

Love National City. Been with them for years, never 1 overdraft fee. But wait, I'm not an idiot that expects a bank to check my account to see if I should buy something, I check to see if the money is there first

Not the banks fault your'e irresponsible

Yeah, what she said.

Money isn't easy to come by, I don't know a single responsible person that doesn't know whats in their bank accounts.
Overdraft fees are punishment for douching up and spending what you KNOW you don't have.

and for the record just cuz i ask questions about what i would like to do to my truck doesn't mean i'm going to go out and buy the shit. maybe i just want suggestions so in the future when i do have the money i can go buy the stuff. i like to plan future modifications to my vehicles. not just go buy some shit that won't work. also getting opinions on what works and what doesn't will keep me from wasting money on shit that doesn't work.

I've had National City for a couple decades now. I have been hit with overdraft charges before but that was my fault. I chose the lesser of two evils when it came time to pay the credit card. Get hit with late charges and over limit fees or a quite smaller overdraft. Then most recently I forgot ATM deposits take a day longer to process and had a couple checks bounce. My fault, but I still was pissed.

pretty sure any bank/credit union I know of has an ATM, and at that ATM you have a slot and envelopes for what they call deposits, deposits can be in check form or cash form...

I don't think its Chase or BoA

I have a national city acct that does this, I have a credit union acct. that does this, and pretty much any other bank ATM I've been to has this option.

next time don't haul ass to the bank on a fri and you'll save money on gas, then you can just go to their ATM if they are closed and deposit it.

Some other banks, like 5/3 give you 50% of an ATM deposit on the spot as well. But I know BoA and Chase have ATMs now that you can feed cash like a vending machine and same bank checks can be scanned in and available immediately.

Most other banks do NOT make deposits available immediately and take a day or two to process, especially checks. BoA/Chase are allowing you to feed it cash like a vending machine to have it become immediately available.

Knowing that, I still switched to 5/3 though.

Try a local credit union and set up a "personal loan" account. I have $10k that I can draw on in an emergency, and it will automatically pull from that "loan" account to cover my ass if I'm stupid and not paying attention. It also came in handy when we bought my wife's car - she wanted to pay a big down payment but couldn't get funds transferred from our MMA in time. I wrote a large check and didn't have to worry about it.

Do you think they'll use the trash in his yard as collateral?

Not a good idea to put cash in the envelopes, most bank ATMs usually have a sign saying so. A bank employee could easily pocket the cash and claim you put in an empty envelope.

I'm curious what Kodiak thinks is rich, however. I make ~ $40k/yr and understand the concept of what I can and cannot afford. If I get an overdraft fee, it's because I fukced up somewhere. Only time I had an overdraft fee reversed was when I got double billed by DirecTV and it put me over. Now I keep an extra couple hundred in checking just in case.
