Is carfax worth it?

looking at a truck tomorrow I'm pretty hopeful about. I suspect it MIGHT have been wrecked (the bed is not original)

is the 35 bux for a car fax worth it? I have never done one before and I'm not sure what all it gives you.

if its anything like the free one they were offering i wouldnt spend 35 bucks for it. ive found unless it was fixed at a dealer it wouldnt be on the report. if they buyer is serious about selling it have him pay for it to prove its clean. would also be a good thing to have for other interested parties.

Nope, I ran my Samurai through it and it said it had a clean record. However the previous owner was killed in it when it rolled over in the U.P. during a snowstorm.

I've also seen others that haven't picked up stuff either. Carfax is a dealer network that has to be reported into by the dealerships and therefore lots of stuff can be missed.

sometimes yes, sometimes no.

I totaled my car last spring. The insurance company let me keep it with a clear title. I could have fixed it and nobody would have known.

I'd say if you're seriously looking for a car and will be looking at a few of them, then the monthly unlimited would be worth it.

Not for me! I don't like vehicles or machines like that. My buddy had a friend building up a bike with a Buell Lightning motor from a fatal accident... I didn't even like standing next to it.

For how inexpensive it is it's not a bad idea. A couple years ago I went to look at a car it looked good was going to make an offer for shits I ran a carfax. Come to find out it was originally from the states brought over to canada where it was totaled, rebuilt, then brought back to MI but somehow had a green title. Like others said a lot can go under so maybe bring someone else along to help look for things you might overlook as I'm sure we've all overlooked something on a vehicle we really like.

Carfax helped me with a decision to buy a vehicle once. I think it is worth it. Carfox however, only makes me giggle like a little girl.

The truck I just bought had a carfax report and it showed an accident last year and then a month later it showed what was fixed. The accident description was pretty vague though. Showed me all the work that was done at dealerships since new.

Stuff takes about 6 months or more to show up on the report though.

depends on how the accident was handled, when i was in high school i had an s-10 and ended up hitting a suburban in the winter. (break pedal hit the floor, in turn not stopping in time) and police saw it happen so they did a report, of course i was issued a ticket for failure to stop in safe and sure distance or something, when i pulled up the free carfax thing a year later it had all the times the plates had been renewed, 2 previous title transfers, and it said vehicle was in a minor front end collision. I had PLPD on the truck so i never claimed it i just fixed it. it did nothing to the suburban so he didnt claim anything. Sorry for the novel just one of my previous carfax finds.

My favorite is the occasional newbie who signs up, and post 3 or 4 times asking only for a carfax report.

That actually drives me a bit nutty. I wanna kick them in the throat for doing that.

yeah I didn't want to ask for anyone to run it, I don't have a problem spending a little in order to spend on a lot. I just never have seen a report so I didn't know if it was worth it.

it is however taken care of now I think, thanks for everyone's input.
