Default New Mag-Lite

But not just any new Mag-Lite!

I just got home, and found another mag-lite sitting under the tree for me. I already have 5 of these things, so I'm wondering what I could possibly do with another one. I picked it up, turned it on (while checking out the business end of things) and BAM! It's a SMD LED mag-lite. I personally have never seen or heard of them making one of these. Anyone have one of these? I played with it for a few minutes in the basement, and this m'fer is BRIGHT!

In the dark:

Slightly further away:

The color from my phone kinda sucks, but they are bright, white, and pretty damn nice.

I dont have the LED version, Just got a standard halogen tonight (it was my dads).. Do you think the LED upgrade is worth the 20 bucks? The light was free (christmas present) so I can spend the money to upgrade it a little...

I bought 5 when Lowes had them on sale, couple of the 2 cells and 3 of the 3 cells. They also had mini mag leds on sale, got one of those also its pretty cool also. It's bright as hell and has 3 settings, 25% power, 100% power and SOS flash.

Well, considering I'm currently have a new flashlight on my radar, this will tide me over until I can afford it, especially since my incandescent mag-lites sometimes don't cut it. It's definitely bright as hell, especially considering it's only one LED. This is the 3-cell variation. The new light I'm getting soon is an HID flashlight. It's gonna take some saving up if I keep blowing my money on stupid shit like I have been.

Depends. I bought the Nite-Ize LED conversion, and it SUCKS. I have a 5 D cell mag, and with the led in it puts out less light than my 3 AAA cell led light.

I meant the OEM Led package for the 3d light.
Pretty much just the bulb for the one he just got..
Its made by Mag Industries.

If it's the same diode as this one has, go for it. The only qualm I have so far, a minor one at that, is that the optics have suffered a tiny bit. What you saw in the pictures was the tightest spot I could make, whereas the standard bulb goes much tighter. But, spread it out for a flood and it gets a little better. These look like the exact same optics as the regular lights.

All they did was change out the "bulb"
Kept everything the same AFAIK.
Here is a link to the LED Im talking about
Keep in mind it is for a 3D Light, if you put it in a light which uses more batteries (=more power) you will burn the LED out.
They also make it for 4d IIRC.

How many lumens are these Maglites? I just bought a small LED light and it's 160 lumens and is the brightest flashlight I've ever had. The package said this on it, tactical CREE XR-E LED Ultra Bright LED. It uses 2 AA and states 5hrs battery life.

I have one of these lights and I also have the OEM Maglight-LED package. The OEM package seems brighter. (The OEM is a year newer, so that might explain it), either way they are great with battery life and quite bright.

I had a thread on here a while ago about converting an old Maglite to LED. I never could get the old batteries out so I pitched it. I did get a crank-charge LED flashlight from my sis for Christmas. Seems to work great from what I tested so far. I like the "no batteries" part.

The Maglight brand LED is great, I love it. My dad saw how well it worked and bought a different brand LED bulb for his Maglight and it sucked. It's definitely worth the $20 to convert to the Maglight brand but any of the cheaper options suck.
I've seen some great light out of the smaller 3-bulb tactical style LED flashlights too, even the cheapo ones like Harbor Freight, Walmart, and TSC sell.

I too converted my 3D cell Mag w/ the Mag-Light brand LED. VERY happy. Not only is it as bright as my Surefire, but the batteries last about a year. Only thing I've noticed is the color of the light. It's a bluish/white and the halogen warm white of my Surefire seems to penetrate a little better. Also, my Surefire works better when tracking deer blood. But, for camping and every day use, I always grab my mag light first.

I just picked up one of these jobs. Really impressed with the construction (usually Dealextreme's products are cheap china crap...) and its bright as hell for about an hour on 1aa. I'd say its really close to the stated 200lms, it blows away my SF 6p.
