Lame. It seems down here vehicles are easier to salvage, I don't know why. I talked to a guy who was selling his Comanche and he said his truck was salvaged due to being a theft recovery, apparently someone joyrode it and tore the seats... that was all it took to get it salvaged?

I would be very weary of getting back a stolen vehicle. You can do a lot of stupid things to an automobile. It could nickle and dime you to death after you get it back.

The thief could have jumped it and bent the frame without you knowing it. After it chews up a set of tires in a matter of weeks, Id be pissed. He could have been driving it around for hours with it buried in the redline too.

Did you look at it real good? Little cars like that are designed to absorb impacts (Crumple zone) and the whole sub frame might be bent and need to be replaced. Not to mention the air bag as everyone else said, plus body panels, headlight housings, grill, radiator, radiator support ect ect...I can easily see all that adding up to 6 or 7k on a 10k car. When my wife cracked up our 2000 dodge caravan a few years ago it come to $2800 and it was just body damage the airbag never went off, the frame was straight ect.

That's a perfect example of someone not knowing WTF they are doing at their job.

$7100 in damage, without airbag deployment. Shit adds up quick. The rear end was fine BTW. The cost was almost all in cosmetic crap and labor.

First (and only) winter that car ever saw too. Fucking black ice.

I know some add just dink stuff to actually total stuff out, but i think some stuff got missed there. things add up VERY fast, i used the Mitchell estimating setup the last semester i was in school and even just minimal damage added up to quite a bit.

what cosmetic crap? it looks like alot of the front suspension is kinda wasted mechanical time=$$

Front bumper cover, rocker panel, front 1/4, rear 1/4 work, spoiler, head, fog, and tail light, rear bumper cover, fiberglass repair on the deck lid, and paint. The tow truck did more damage than the ditch.

Mechanical stuff was a tie rod, ball joints, and a new rack/ pinion assembly (rack & pinion assembly was changed 6 months after the fact after I complained of a light clunk in the steering). My insurance company also mandates the use of all new parts as well....so that didnt help with the cost.

Its magical how quick repairs can add up. I don't remember specific prices, but we had one of my former high school teacher's G6 come in. He T-boned a woman in her Camry who decided she could pull out of the strip mall when she wanted to. New airbag, bumper, core support, fender, headlight, hood, maybe the driver's door, other misc parts...add in paint and all other labor it was around $5000 in total costs from what I saw on the work order.

Thats pretty close to what I said when he told me it wasn't totaled.

But, he supposed to get it back today last I heard, so we'll see how it turned out.

Doesn't Daewoo make them for GM?

Salvage titles are 40%of value. Same with old municipal vehicles.

Yeah I'd say buy it back straighten the hood so it latches, duct tape the headlight in the right spot, cut out the air bags and Drive it til the wheels fall off. Not really sure how that Ram didn't total. It looks like it needs a new everything.

my girl got sandwiched at a dead stop in ypsi last winter. no bag deployment or unibody damage but estimates were over 55% of vehicle value. insurance company decided to fix car. the driver that cause the crunch drove off so i guess there is a clause or something in her insurance about hit and runs. i suppose it depends on the company you are insured with and the adjuster that makes the claim.

the big dif between the truck and the aveo is about humm maybe 20-30k in value. this is the reason it wasn't totaled. besides on a truck what was it, betting the frame could be straightened out, a new bed isn't that much and a new rear end with suspension still wouldn't be that much in the big value picture. besides now a days you can get a cash amount post accident on your newer vehicle for lost car value due to accident.
