Default More career advice please.

I'm looking into the Parole Officer program at Delta. I was told that its not a 100% in the office type of job so I am interested. I have some personality traits that I think would be benificial to this job. Besides, there will be no shortage of douchbags coming and going to jail in the near future.

Thoughts please.

Is it a bachelors program? Last time I looked at the state listings I'm somewhat sure they wanted a bachelors. I'll have to look again though.

I know of a couple guys that are doing it or have done it. No major complaints other than dealing with idiots and manipulators all the time. And you can't think normally, that's not part of being a state employee.

They have a parole program? Anywho I did parole for the State of California and loved it...if you were in your office you we not doing your job. When I moved back to Michigan it was hard to get into. Parole is one of those jobs people get and dont leave. If you want to deal with shit bags all day, go to law school, in the end it pays much better

I have 2 friends that are PO's. They told me that it is a decent job but you don't get paid s**t. They are both considering trying something else or going back to school and trying to get into law enforcement. They each make less that 30k a year and put in a lot of hours.

starting salary for a parole officer in the state of michigan is around 30k...so I think your friends are full of BS...probation officers on the other hand vary by county...oakland county start around 28-29k...keep in mind both the parole and probation officer get a raise once a year untill they max out on thier salary, so again I think you friends are full of BS

Why would anyone want to deal with s***bags all day 5 days a week? Next thing you know your a s***bag and then what? There has to be something better suited to you. With all your wit and charm we see on here you can go places.

Well not a bad idea if you have the time to put in and have confidence in the states budget and the effort to create jobs

It it was me I would to the private sector first, but that is me. Again, I hope everything works out good for you!
