UPS Insurance claim

Anyone ever have to make a UPS insurance claim?

I bought something and when it got here it was all cracked and not working but the box is still intact?

It was insured for the value of the contents

The shipper has to make the claim. They will issue the check only to the shipper as well.

Is that a new rule? I shipped a set of $$$ bike wheels about 8 years ago and UPS managed to bend one of the axles. They did everything they could to get out of the claim, including telling me the packaging wasn't good enough. Had to provide proof they were packed in manufacturers shipping boxes and I had experience shipping bike wheels.

Took me two weeks of bullshit to get the money out of them, and they sent the buyer the check.

I refuse UPS service if at all possible.

I had to file one with UPS about 3 months ago. It was near flawless in getting a refund. This was for an aluminum AMC V8 intake that showed up with a cracked off heater hose emboss.

It took a little bit of work to get all the paperwork in order, submitted electronically AND via Fax, along with before and after pics.

I think we had the refund in about 3-4 days after submitting it.

If the box is fine, but the contents are damaged, how is that UPS's fault? Sounds like it was broke when packaged or it was packaged wrong.

It's possible. I shipped a pretty tricked out paintball gun (at the time... Oracle Autococker with E-blade), nitro tank, and hopper to a guy in Pennsylvania. His kid opened it up, hooked his air tank to it, and it didn't work. Luckily, I had video proof that the gun fired the day it shipped (literally had someone video me firing it, then unscrewing a different air tank and setting it in the shipping box). The buyer said the box was in good shape but the gun still didn't fire.

I filed a damaged goods claim, UPS asked for verification that it worked prior to shipping, I sent them the video, they told me to get a price comparison of 3 similar items, and the buyer had the check within 2 weeks.

All I know is I paid for insurance and when i opened the box it as broke.

I guess it is good that I paid extra for insurance

Define "intact". Still sealed, no rounded corners at all, etc?

I heavily insure everything I ship whenever possible (mostly FedEx ground) regardless of how well I think I have packed the item.

What was it, anyway?

The box looks ok, but after looking closer the one corner was crushed (pushed in)

It was a lightbar

The shipper can sign a quick release on any claim. then you can send that in along w/ the insurance form and you'll be set. they'll have someone investigate it, and cut you a check (hopefully)

Update

Ups Paid the claim and now the place i bought it from refuses to pay for the replacement parts.

He said i was was rude and wasting his time because i asked about it to much??

So he was paid by me for the product and again by UPS.

Well Ups said it is up to him to pay me and paypal said they wont do anything since it was a non-ebay transaction

Great rules they have

I did contact IC3.gov and filed a internet fraud complaint

of course it didn't work, it was a cocker.

the 3 way solenoids on the v1 eblade we're that great.
