Default I'm lost/ please help

I have a friend with a 88 sami with a carbed 1.3 with a header. The distributor quite working and it burns oil. He wants me to fix it for him. Can you buy a new pickup coil for these? Best place to buy? Any suggestions? Can you slip in a newer motor that is easier to find? I'm a Ford man so I'm lost working on this thing. Any help would be great. I called the junk yard and they said they could get me a distributor for around a $100 but they said there are two different distributors and I'm not even sure what this motor is out of but I'm guessing this thing had EFI originally. any 1.3 will fit the trans a 1.6tracker engine (and the header&intake ) will fit with a trans adapter but you need a electric fuel pump. I have some 1.3 junk engines & I think some have distributors 88 sami had carbs (with lots of wires )I dont think they were even available with fi until the 90s

Where do you get the 1.6L adapter and what does it cost.

Ok so when my friend told me it died i told him it was probably the coil. So he had a mechanic look at it and the mechanic told him the ignition pickup thing in the distributor was bad. So i put a new distributor in it and I got no spark. Got power to the coil but no spark. Can i try a old ford coil or is this thing special.

Put a 1.3 DOHC Swift GT motor in it and double your horsepower.

I've messed with this rig most the night. This is what I know for sure. The wiring to the distributor was butchered so I went into this not knowing if I need a round plug or flat plug distributor. I bought the round plug one. I've got power to the distributor and coil via the black wire. I have continuity from the distributor to the coil threw the brown wire but I'm not getting a signal threw it to tell the coil to pulse. So either my new dis is bad or it's the wrong one. RB

It sounds like you put an EFI Dist on a Carb engine or vise versa, or EFI Coil when you should have a Carb Coil, or versa vice.

Post some pics of the engine compartment
