I've heard that they can be really touchy over bumps, plus I've heard nightmares of not getting the pedal that came with the engine and it not working. Opinions?

Well, I was leery of it at first. Yes, I had the problem of getting the wrong model year parts. But, since I bought it from Schramm's, they guaranteed it. So, since they had pulled the pedal assembly from the wrong vehicle, they actually bought me a brand new one. At that point, it literally becomes plug & play. I also bought a complete spare from a junk yard for something like $50. That included the pedal, wiring harness and black box. But for you, just make sure you have the same donor vehicle.

My guess is that it's easier than rigging up some aftermarket system.

No Jesus , I haven't had problems with water yet as I'm not a fan of driving in water deep enough to sink my ankles. If I go that deep, I have my complete fuse box, I'm only inches from my CB radio and a variety of other things. It would be different if I was building a swamp buggy.

If someone buys one of those I WILL buy one of those 6L80's from them. I'll throw up $800 if someone wants to get one of those L92's for 3k that is a smoking deal and you arent going to get a better engine for the money.

I figured you would Bryce but didn't wanna speak for you. Not sure if you saw or not, but there was another 6L80E listed on there for $1000 recently, I think it's still for sale. Has 12k miles if I rememeber right.

I dont check those boards regularly, I only have so much time! I'll take a look for that one, I offered the seller 900 for one shipped so I think that's pretty fair considering I can pick one up from schrams for 1500 tomorrow.

I want to put one in my trailblazer really bad and then a 3.73 in the diff and a few other supporting mods and I should be a few seconds faster and a few mpg better.

once again, after research, I can get a lot further for the money if I stick with the current trans.... swapping is not an easy task so if anyone thinks the 6l80 swap is a good idea; it isnt.

An aluminum one that's too small.

I have but havent run a 22x19 double pass dual core ron davis, alum cj successfully runs a 22x16" I believe with a stock ls1. On mine I have the trans heat exchanger, not really a cooler but more a temperature maintaining device to warm and cool the trans as needed, if it seems to be too hot I'll add in an air to fluid cooler to the system. If you talk to ron davis they say anything less than a 29x19 double pass dual core radiator will have a hard time cooling but that's designed for wide open in 120 degree weather, in the real world of recreational wheeling you can get away with much less. Twisted customs builds all their chassis with a 22x19 ron davis and they have 400+ hp engines surviving races like KOH without issues.

So what do you think about the radiators that AA or Novak Conversions offer for the swap, worth it ?, and will it be able to keep it cool at the dunes? I have yet to go to the dunes with the acception of realy cold days and not have over heating be an issue be it tranny or motor in any of the vehicles running a V8. The only one of my freinds who haven't had any cooling issues runs dual aluminum radiators with fans in the back of his truggy but that is obviosly not pratical in a streetable jeep that needs it back seat for the little ones. Also I noticed that AA offers a copper radiator for the swap at a pretty good savings over the aluminum one. I do'nt mean to babble or ask stupid questions, I just would like to get the right stuff the first time. Well I was home from work last week (I work out of town) I tried to get my jeep running agian as it hasn't run since I was at the dunes in the first part of August, I soon became frustrated at chasing stupid problems and have decided to just rip the hole drive train out and just freakin do it already. I hate the fact that it will be torn apart but its a must at this point. this by no means will be a weekend project as I'm not home at all anymore so I have time to make sure that I get everthing I need. For a motor I've decided on an lq9 with a 4l65e hooked to my 231 cHD with a terraflex super short slip yoke eliminator. everthing should bolt up with some what ease. I hope.

not to start an opinion war, but my trans guy (who I trust quite a bit) says he's very confident building one for the 500hp, no sweat (he builds transmissions for mostly 1/4 mile stuff).

mine is really built (about all the upgrades without going billet shafts and whatnot) and it's holding quite well behind my lq4 and a 5600# rig on 42s.

my rig should be a little over 400hp

hope that helps a little

sorry to revive this old thread but im just getting ready to do the lq9 swap in my commando. Im going to use the th400 and dana 300. Its a DBW engine and its a complete package from an Escalade. Engine, harness all the accessories, pedal and TAC module and harness. Getting pretty excited. The engine will be here this week sometime. This was a great thread and makes me feel a bit more comfortable that some local guys have also done this swap. Im ready for it.

I sent mine to Jim's Performance and he redid the harness & reflashed the ecm for me. Worked great.
