Question Cheap to free basic CAD software?

Well, I picked up a fresh tank of 75-25 for the MIG today, and I'm thinking about building myself a bit of a mini roof rack, that will just hold my spare, a shovel, a hi-lift and possibly a jerry can or cooler, that can be easily removed by one person for around town.

And I was curious if anybody knows of a decent program, or even a free trial. I have a free 30 day trial of AutoCAD '09 I could use but its way over the top for what I need.

It's not really about finding one, I'm pretty handy with Google, I just want some of you fabricator's opinions of what exactly to use (i.e. best, easiest, free, etc). If this goes well I may make myself a bumper, or potentially even some bracketry for homemade longarms down the road.

You can use Microsoft Visio and not only draft, but it includes all kinds of preloaded symbology (drag & drop) for various engineering discplines AND will open most ACAD files. I use it all the time.

I use unigraphics NX5 and release 18. They arent cheap, free or easy to come-by so it doesnt do you any good.

mechanical desktop was always pretty good for easier stuff. use that free trial you have and get as much use out of it as you can.

If you need something I have a student version of SolidEdge 17th edition. its older but it was assembly and weldments. If you want a copy, pm me your address and I will send you one. Its fairly easy to work and IT DOESN'T expire...

I can get you a copy of autocad 2007. Little bit easier than 09 for a beginner. This is my roof rack I did with it. Its a section of the main tube for my roof rack, took me 15 minutes.
