Different settings entirely. President Bush appeared to be there for a much less formal event that was not televised, or at least the camera work didn't appear to be network. That's my only comment, have fun.

Did you not see the excitment and how proud those maries were, and as for obama wow you could hear a pin drop. Guys taking pictures of bush, those were genuine emotions. as for the marines with obama they could not wait to get out of there

Looked pretty much the same to me. And could it have been more formal because Obamalamma wanted it that way? Just a thought. NOT an attack.

Granted, that's possible that President Obama wanted it that way. However if the order was to keep it formal, than perhaps the Marines were simply following orders by being quite. However, I do know all the military guys I know prefer President Bush.

Yep, I would expect some difference in reaction between a President traveling to Iraq and making a surprise visit to encourage the troops, and a President appearing before a group of solders in North Carolina to give a policy speech.

Agreed. Different settings different appropriate response.

That said the troops seemed to really be excited to see President Bush. If they didn't like him maybe their reactions would be different.

Also someone, maybe Marine Mike, has said they look at the President different. He is their commander in chief.

We will never know. We weren't there and we(most of us) aren't soldiers.

I hope this doesn't make me a hippie.
