It will be interesting, and have some share, but people still like the comfort of WXP, and there are always netbooks selling with linux on them. Then there's always W7.

Also, KartRacer, I used Linux (as an administrator and desktop user) for a number of years and didn't have to compile anything I didn't want to. The only reason to compile is if you need some bleeding edge feature for an application that isn't available in your distro. Running Debian Unstable or Ubuntu's development branch should give you a pretty close approximation to the newest and shiniest apps without ANY compiling. The good thing about open source is that you even have the OPTION to compile to get the latest features. If it were MS or Apple, you'd be waiting until their next release cycle, and paying out the ass for it.

Seems like those that want to find fault with Linux always bring up 'compiling', I'll bet half have never done it, just read about it. Compiling isn't even that big of an issue these days. Command line is just direct access to the OS without the pretty pictures.
Seriously though, the last time I HAD to compile OR use the command line without any other option was back in the days of Red Hat 7.... Ubuntu is about as close to idiot proof as you can get, even though I don't care for it's limited use of root. (Big reason why it's idiot proof)

I use Gmail, but as far as Google's cloud, I don't know if I want google having access to my porn, errr, files.
