Default have you ever had major surgery/in the icu

I know every one is different and every surgery is different, but just trying to get a idea what to expect.

I have had 5 surgeries but all out patient, and i was only in the hospital once for a few days for testing.

I'm half scared out of my mind, the other half im like just another walk in the park

The dr said i would be in for about a week and half of that time would be in ICU

I have a severe herniated disk in my thoracic spine pressing on my spinal cord, and they have to preform a thoracic open chest surgery to get to it.

I was told that they will deflate my lung and then have to work around all the other organs and major vessels to get to it.

They are supposed to call next week to schedule it, he said its concerning but not life threatening right now.

I want to wait till after the holidays to do it, one it will be cold out side and i wont be tempted to go out side.

2nd The holidays are tuff right now because we lost my Mother in law in Dec

3rd The kids will be going back to school in a few weeks, and i am trying to make this as less stressful for her

Spent a week in ICU. I was 13 when I did back in 88. You will have more people checking in on you there. You will be hooked to more stuff. And you will not be able to get up much. At 13 I was bored after the first 3 days. It took that long for me to get to the point I knew where I was at. But the ICU is not bad, With what you are having done that is the best place for you!!! Like I said they check on you more than the other rooms.

I was in ICU for two days with a back injury after a car crash/high speed pursuit. I was so doped up they could have had me in the pediatrics ward and I wouldn't have known the difference. What I do remember vividly though is I had a smokin' hot nurse give me a sponge bath to get the blood off me after I was there a bit. Even with all the drugs on board I got a stiffy when she washed my junk.

Good LEGAL drugs and a hot nurse putting hands on my penis. ICU rocks!

This past December, I tore my brachial plexus, which is the group of nerves in your shoulder that controls your shoulder, arm, and hand. I had to have surgery to tie a nerve back together, which they grafted out of my lower leg. Afterward, I got a blood clot in my lung as a result of the surgery that landed me in the ICU for a week. They monitor just about everything you can think of at all hours of the day. I was hooked up to an EKG to monitor my heartbeat, and just about every time I moved and my heartbeat would increase even the slightest bit, there would be a nurse in the room within seconds to make sure everything was ok.

You have absolutely nothing to worry about in the ICU. You'll be in the best hands and watched over 24/7. The care you receive in the ICU is one million times better than that you receive in any other hospital room. It really is the best place you can be. Best of luck to you!

i guess the best way for me to look at it, is dont take Life for granted and remember that if you think you have it bad, someone has it worse.

Just scared a litle and I am not afraid to admit it
