this has a dent in it, im pretty sure it was hitting the ring gear.. ill replace it soon

before

more before

sand would have really helped, i might still blast it later but im all out of media

one side, i like the axles silver.

the other stud is soaking in parts cleaner, it is froze to the nut

not bad for one day, i think my wire wheel is about shot after all that
as you can see, i dont like to work far from the fridge which is for sale. LOL
unfortunately i cant throw in the axle until i get back from training so next on the parts to do list is clean up the heads, remachine a valve seat and a mild port job. Also still hunting down the front 60

i said screw it, and decided not to do this anymore...

kidding, im just having issues with what to run in front. i was suggested coilovers and 3 link because air shocks will fail. if anyone is running that, id really like some feedback on how you like it.
im pretty sold on a rear shock tower that will stick up approximately 14.94" into the body at a 32 degree angle allowing exactly 24" from the axle mount to the body when fully extended, and at full compression should leave 2.99" of clearance...obviously wont EVER flex all that out, so ill throw in a couple bump stops to keep from mangling the sheetmetal. as for a limiting strap, i have come up with a design using a 1 ton ATV winch inside the cargo area between the shock hoops, and fuel cell, the plan is to weld a 1/4" plate to the body itself as re enforcement with a _V_ shaped mount tying into the cage, with a small non roller type fair lead mounted into the floor.
as for pictures of me working, just imagine me staring at my explorer with a measuring tape, protractor, square and laptop marking off lines and plugging them into the computer. its boring as hell.

Seems like sitting there being confused is where about 75% of the time is spent.

I can vouch for that...

who is the genious who told you air shocks would fail? I have set up countless air shocks, seen thousands and on my 3rd set myself and the only time I have seen a failure is from topping out (lots of hard jumping) and letting the axles hang off the internal circlip that holds them together. A limit strap will solve that problem.

It takes a lot of time or some good luck to dial in air shocks but once they are there and the suspension geometry is good they will work as good as anything else until you spend hours at speed in the desert.

I will say that if you do the one link like you want that air shocks will only hurt the performance more.
