Glad the munchkin is ok. You are very smart for insisting on a police report.

I think letting your children cross the street unsupervised would be considered neglect.

very scary but glad to hear things turned out ok.

I will never speed through the neighborhood... I usually do 15-20mph though them... if I see kids out I will slow down.

I did this

was driving in a 379 Peterbilt with a loaded trailer

was still white as a ghost when I got home an hour later

That's awful.... If people are going near the road they should look out for themselves and pay attention to what is going on around them...to protect themselves from drivers who are not paying attention..but where I live there are few sidewalks and there are these health nut bikers with spandex on and a bullet helmet and they just ride in the middle of the road it is soo annoying like they expect you to wait for them....god they are just so annoying... and they will just act like your not even there too...you think some would at least have the respect to move over for you...but they don't.

You're very lucky, and so is the kid. I've had two experiences like this, both bad, one very bad.

The most recent was about 11 years ago, I had stopped at a stop sign and started to go when I heard a "thump" and the most horrible sound I've ever heard while driving....crying. I jumped out of the truck to see that an 8yr. old boy had ran his bike right off the end of the sidewalk and into the passenger box side of my truck, and his bike was now partially under my right rear 35" Turdbird (hey, I said it was 11 years ago, and it's not like I had a mullet) with a bent front wheel/fork. The kid was crying and was scraped up a bit, but otherwise fine. His brother and friend were there, and they were starting to cry too. I knew they lived down the road a block or so, so I told the brother to go get his mom...she's not home...dad?....nope....babysitter?....the brother is baby sitting...he's like 10. I go up to a neighbor's house and have them call 911 and the kid's mom at work, she brings out a wet washcloth and we clean the kid up a bit so he can see it's not so bad, which helps alot, along with the cookies the neighbor brings out. Mom shows up and is screaming and swinging at me as the Police and Rescue unit roll up, kids start crying again. Police put me in the back of the car and call a tow truck for my truck before even asking me anything. Brother tells the cop that his little brother was looking behind him and ran into me, after they calm the mother down and EMT's apply (3) band-aids and some antiseptic spray everyone is free to go. The next day I dropped off my childhood BMX bike at the kid's house, the mother still says "hi" to me in WalMart now and then.

The other experience still makes me sick to talk about... but I was 7, and my dad hit a kid and a drive culvert on M-13 at 50mph, I got 380 stitches in the top of my head from the windshield (no belt, can sit in a vehicle, even parked, without one on now) and a young boy from Pinconning never made it to Junior High. Neither one of my parents have ever spoke more than a couple words about it.

Hug your family and go buy a lotto ticket.

Was it this van?

Glad the kid is alright though, that's always been a fear for me. Driving down here in Pacific Beach is even worse, the pedestrians seem to think they have the right of way at all times, and apparently that stopping a Jeep is easier than stopping themselves.
