Default Bronco top bolts

I currently have a 96 full size that the top is held on by security torx bolts. I have snapped 4 bits trying to get these off. I have had other broncos pre 96 and all of the tops were held on by hex bolts. I am considering cutting all of the security torx bolts off and replacing with the pre 96 kit. Does anyone know of any reasons why this would not work. I contact Jeff broco grave yard and they were not sure if it would or wouldn't work.

my 95 has the same thing and so did my 94. i took a grinder to them and just replaced the clips and bolts. i only use between 3 and 5 bolts. so that should work fine.

i would give it a shot, you can buy the bolts and clips from broncograveyard, might have to replace clips too

i think it the stupidest thing I have seen. First you are on an angel because of the glass so you cant put a lot of force on the torx bit or get a good seat in the bolt.

i can get most of the about a 1/4" to a 1/2" up and thats it. I'm just gonna cut them. I like the hex bolts way better.

Auto zone had the dimpled torx that you can put into a ratchet. Made by am-pro and about 15 bux. Harbor freight has them too, but you are dealing with a lesser quality bit and you will need to purchase 5 or 6 sets.

The idea of tack welding on a nut over the torx head is a good idea. You may need to use some muratic acid to remove the galvanization. Muratic acid is extremely corrosive and will burn you, you must use heavy duty chemically rated gloves and DO NOT breath the fumes.

sounds like a bad ass thing to be doing in the back of a truck lol

any way i dont see any thing wrong with replaceing the clips and bolts. but what about the top 3 that go into the roof theres no clip. I dont know if there the same thread. just thinking i got a 90, and a 96 never took the top off the 96

I'm the last of the hard asses of America, I drink the stuff for breakfast! Just kidding. I was hoping people would be smart enough to have both doors wide open and the tailgate down.
