Default Anybody find NBC's list of the worst cars ever, slightly odd?

They included gas guzzling, bad for the enviroment and arnold all in one caption...

What a cracked out list. Aztek might be ugly, but it wasn't an absolute piece of crap like the Vega was. I don't exactly understand what qualities in a car make it one of the worst according to NBC. Apparently solely on styling, and even fuel efficiency. A "worst" car should have ugly styling, and just plain do nothing well, but whatever. It's NBC...morons.

are these people idiots?

I didn't read it all, but the few lines I read where comparing '60's, 70's and 80's cars to their current new cars.

How stupid are they? Of cource new cars better be more efficient and more power...

Don't you sit on a deck, or are you talking about a deck of cards?

Of course you had to have your bleeding heart, liberal, tree-hugging comments about gas guzzlers on MSNBC. The gremlin, pacer, or Peugeot 504 kills their political viewpoint.

i think there was to much focus (no pun intended) on the styling. If the car sells and is reliable and lasts the whole model cycle its not a bomb just becuase critics dont like it. I personally like Toyota Scion XB, and i cant think of one single honda or toyota since the late 70's that was a turkey car as they called it so you should take off the honda element also.

Someone brought up the Le car, lol an old neighbor had one when i was little.
That should definately make the list. Heck the ford focus for its countless recalls deserves to be on the list more than the hummer but the greenie influence couldn't see that :miff: Nothing wrong with the H2. Dummies. It gets bad milage because its a big truck, its heavy, it has 4wd it meets the fuel efficency requirements idiots, they lose more credibility each time they pull a stupid stunt like this. Way to do some research guys, real professional journalism.

The AMC pacer and Gremlin were actually a good quality car . The Gremlin i personally think was a pretty cool looking car as well .

The Vega was a good ride if you take in all things considered . It was built as a low cost throw away car . Given that it would still perform decent , Some of them even had a Cosworth engine that ran like a bitch .

If they want a more accurate list perhaps then should contact some old ass that has owned and driven most of there list :gman:

I don't know if I'd call a Pinto and Vega "classic" American icons. That's putting them in the category of Camaros, Mustangs, Chargers, Challengers, etc.

However - I'm not aware the Governor Ah-nold ever owned an H2. I know he owned (and presumably still owns) and promoted H1s when they first went on the civilian market.

Looks and sounds like typical media elitists telling uscars they didn't like.

Here's DuffMan's list of the "Bottom 10"

Vega - good design, but saddled with low-grade steel and poor paint, they rusted like an SOB. The aluminum-block 2.3 was a nightmare all of it's own - leaked, warped, and cracked - all at the same time.

Early Toyota Corollas - despite the cult-like following (and selective memory of former owners who now have Lexi), these things rusted worse than Vegas and all 70s Fords. The engines were solid, but the rest of the car was crap. I mean, anti-freeze was an option - in Ohio

Audi 5000 / Coupe - sporty, sophisticated, and filled with features. Also buggy with weak execution (electrical failures/fires, ill-fitting windows, sunroofs, doors, glass...). VERY tempremental around cylinder head torque and needed to have the head re-torqued OFTEN.

73 - 78 Chevy/GMC C/K Series (pickups, Blazers, 'burbs). Well-designed and built tough as hell. However, they rusted quickly - due to a complete lack of primer and paint in the interior body panels... UAW defined the new low point in build quality. Once you finished building (and painting) them they were excellent vehicles.

All Isuzu cars (including stealth-Isuzus rebadged as Geos and their domestic bastard stepchild the Chevette and T-1000). Weak design, horrid execution, and agricultural-like mechanics. If you could keep it holding together, it would run - they were clearly cars built by a truck company. The apogee of the brand was the star-crossed and utterly confused "Buick Opel Isuzu" of 1977 - 79. A german-badged, japanese car sold only at american car dealers (who were primarily focused on selling LeSabres to 50 year-olds).

First-generation Acuras. Content-packed Hondas that rusted even faster than regular Hondas. The confused Sterlings were the low point here. An upmarket japanese car sold as a discount english car only in the United States. Expensive (and rare) parts, and confused dealers.

Rotary Mazdas. Unique, quirky, fast, and sometimes weird (Mazda Cosmo). Also used gas like a V8, and needed constant mechanical attention. The rotary pickup was a special moment.

Yugo. The dealership I worked at had new ones that were rusting out on the lot. We had to patch them up, paint them, and keep them indoors (so they would stop rotting and maybe start).

Fiat - any imported into the US. "Fix It Again Tony". Enough said.

79 - 81 Dodge Challenger and Plymouth Sapporo. Mitsubishi prequels to the Honda Prelude. Proof that the japanese could and did build some real turkeys.

Other "honorable mention" WTF vehicles:

Chevy Citation / Pontiac Phoenix
Cadillac Cimmaron
Humpbacked late 70s - early 80s Buick Centurys and Olds Cutlasses
Mustang II "Ghia Edition" - a notchback mustang with a landau roof and pimpmobile trim
Lincoln Versailles - "we're not copying the humpbacked Seville, honest"
Triumph TR-7
All GM products with the 350 diesel
AMC Matador coupe - the last version that looked like something out of a 1950s Popular Machanics "what we'll drive in 1975" article.
Pacer Station Wagon.
Renault Alliance / Encore
Renault R-5 (Le Car)
