Good...While in grade school and half of Jr. High, we were paddled as punishment. It worked well. I don't remember it hurting, it was more embaressing to be laughed at by my peers. Then "Time Out" showed up. We thought it was the biggest joke and started to act up on purpose to get out of class...We went to the time out room, sat and did nothing...

That's great, however, parents need to take time to raise and discipline their children as well. It's like being divorced. One parent has one set of rules, the other parent another set, or no rule enforcement at all. People have stopped actually being parents because they are afraid the kids will hate them. Well guess what, I hated my father when I was growing up because he was a disciplinarian but I appreciate it now, and we have a great father/son relationship.

I graduated high school in 95 and in freshman algebra Father Menner would make us do problems on the board. If we were totally offbase in our work he would put his left hand on our backs and punch us on our chests. Not hard, just enough to get our attention. Gives you a good incentive to do your homework.

On the first day of class he hit me over the head with a stack of papers about 2" thick as an example of what he would do to us to gete our attention. Made me sit in the back of class for the rest of my schooling so I wouldn't be made an example of again.

I thought for sure that Fr. Ned would stroke out long before Menner would die.

If my kids need discipline in school I have no problem with somebody of authority taking a paddle to their butts. However, if somebody ever hits them anywhere else (slap, punch, etc.), I will be forced to punish the offender in the exact same way they punished my kid. I'm all about discipline but not about abuse.

Agreed.
Paddle will embarrass the kid more than do any real damage ( had it done to me several times). But if a teacher hit one of my kids in the chest or over the head with a ream of papers I would have to hurt the teacher.

The teacher would kick your ass with your kid's cell phone.
