"The Dirty Sanchez" CJ-7/42's +1 tons

Well I guess I finally put my junk out here for everyone to talk sh!t about I wasnt going to do a build thread on this thing cause I figured I would never have time to update things as I went. But since its taking me a forever to get this thing back on its feet, figured what the hell. Besides there are probably a few people wondering if I was just buying parts there for a while to re-sell them.

The CJ was put together about five years ago, and has been a very reliable rig, but last year at Silver Lake I jumped Test Hill, and ummm well you all know how this story ends.

So, with all the crying and frustrations out of the way figured I'd step up and build a rig that I've always wanted. You know the one with giant tires, coilovers, beadlocks, and all that good stuff.

Ive changed directions on this thing four or five times since October of 08'. I think I have a pretty good game plan now, so we'll see what happens. My plans for the Dirty Sanchez are:
GM Dana 60 front axle - 5:13's w/Detroit
14 bolt rear - 5:13's w/spool
Four linked front and rear w/ coilovers front, and TJ coils for the rear.
Atlas 2peed case with 4.3:1
350 EFI, w/350TH trans
Full hydro steering
Hydro boost, and rear disk brakes
Recentered H1's w/42" Swampers

Thats just a few things. I'm going to throw a bunch of pics in order of the things I've been messin with for a while. Hope you enjoy my horrific world of alcohol abuse and fits of rage. Some of these post will includes rants and rather obscure ramblings, so please bare with me, I often have to run to Office Max to replace the keyboard of my PC.

This is what the old girl used to look like before I destroyed it mines the baby puke green one. The silver one is Jeepinjz's.

This is after. Ya I know it does'nt look that bad, but it was tore up inderneath. Damn near ripped the front axle out from under it, bent the springs, frame, roll cage and broke the trans in half. By far the worst part was having all that trans fluid pouring all over you, and then all the sand. talk about being tarred and featherd. Unclebeaner was kind enough to give me the shirt off his back to clear the goo from face. ya that doesnt sound good, but hey thats how it happened.

So after countless hours of binge drinking, and smoking cigars I figured it was time to cut some stuff up. And what better way to take your frustrations out, than cutting your frame in half

This was my first step of going over the deep end. Ya I know I should have just built a frame If I had a hooker every time I heard that, well I'd be a happy man. No seriously though, I know working with the CJ frame seems to be a waste of time. There too narrow, there too thin, there too weak, blah blah blah blah blah. I looked for a YJ frome but I'm not spendin money on a frame when I can use that money to buy BEER Are you noticing a trend here. Alright well thats it for now, before my computer crash's and I loose an hour's worth of typing and pics. I'll post some wheel and tire pics later, I'm thirsty

Alright got some more pics loaded (me to)!!!
After a three week fit of rage looking for and buying wheels, I ended up with a set of H1's from Mad Mac form Pirate 4x4http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=752726 just had to pick them up and get some paint on them. easier said then done.

I know everyone has probably seen every tech thread about H1 beadlocks, but this was my first time working with these. And to be honest, there really isnt anything out there about the damn rim locks. What a PITA. I ended up using the PVC rim locks instead of cutting down the mag run flats.

This seemed to be the best way. I put a bottle jack inside the rim lock and jacked it up till it was egg shaped. wiped a generous amout of tire lube AKA, Ajax dish soap. And that little fu@ker popped right in there. This was after I fought with it for what seemed like an eternety without the jack

Wrestled with it for a little more and poof. Its in. I know, WOW this is some serious tech eh?

Lube up your o-ring and make sure its not twisted. Since it seems like there is never anyone around when you need a hand, an old drywall bucket works good to place the back half of the rim and tire on.

Center everything up, and your ready for the outer rim.

This is the part that kinda scared me a first. There is a big gap between the two rim halfs. But everything comes together nice if you follow the torque sequence. The 8 bolts are torqued to 55 ft lbs. , then final torque is set at 65. But I still had a significant gap, so I went to 75 ft lbs. and was right at the gap specs.

Well thats my tire tech. Ya I know, I shouldnt quit my day job. I dont write about em, I just break em'

Couple more pics.

This is where is sets as of right now. As soon as my back is feeling a little better I'm gonna grab me a case of Coors and get back to work. Hopefully buy the week end I will have the front frame cut off, and the 2x3 box welded in so I can get the power train mocked up.

Hey, thanks for the compliments guys.
Ya that is a DJ/a.ka. the mail jeep grill.
Oh and you guys are not molesting my t/case before I get too. In the process of winning and dinnig it before I make the move, so you'll have to get in line
I forgot you even had the aftermath pics Beaner. Its kinda weird, but I only have a few digital pics of the CJ. A few years ago I was a die hard film guy, now look. Everything is stored in photobucket.

Anyhow, got a little bit done Saturday, not much today though.
Cut off the front section of the frame and got the new rails in place. Need to finish welding them, and making the fish plates. Man I'm not looking foward to amking all those plates. Its funny how the little things, like lifting the winch on to the front of the frame is a major pain right now. My back is still killin me.
But just gonna poke along and get done what I can.

I hope to have all this welded up, and get the power-train back in to make the mounts and t/case crossmember. As soon as thats done I get to use these. I hope there is enough in my checking acct. to cover my mortgage this month, cause these damn things arent cheap.

These are the Ballistic Joints with the 1 1/4" shank. I was hoping to use these for all the links, but they look a little smaller on a computer screen. Has anyone ever used this big of a joint for an upper link on a CJ frame? I took a few measurements before I cut the old frame off, It looks like they'll fit, but its gonna be damn close. I think I'll have to use a different set of headers.

Ya I know. When I ordered these from Ballistic, I only ordered 8 for the lowers, and it took forever to get them. About 5 weeks in I called to cancel the order, and they offered to help me out with the next order. Which was eight more at a dicount price, so I ordered them without thinking, and I dont dare go through the hassel of sending them back and having to reorder. So I guess I'll just make them work. I hope

We had the worst customer service we have ever experienced from Ballistic a few weeks ago. Neither I, nor JCR will order from them again.
