i would never buy new, but its cause im cheap! gm aint gonna stiff ya on the warranty cause they go into bankrupsy. to some people no warranty will mean no payment, gm knows that. the last thing gm wants is to not get a bunch of payments. its honor the warranty or totally close the doors and fold.

if you want a gm buy one. they could use your help.

Everybody is saying don't buy new because of the depreciation. Right now you can buy a new one for the price of a year or two old model though so it's kind of dumb to buy a used one, unless it's more than a couple years old.

That's my thinking as well. An '06 or '07 with 40,000 on the ticker for 18 or 18 grand, or a brand new one for low 20s. When I started looking I was expecting to find the above trucks for around 15 or so, but I haven't seen much. If you can get the 0% financing, and then have the tax rebate on the new purchase, it gets attractive.

No.

I bought a new 2008 Chrysler, so I'm hoping my lifetime powertrain warranty pans out...

It has crossed my mind, and is the basis of this question. I prefer GMC, but if there's a a solid chance I won't have a warranty, I'll definitely consider Ferd. I like the looks of those trucks but have never been a fan of their powertrains, they just seem doggy to me.

Ford isn't out of the woods yet. I wouldn't rule out Bankruptcy for them either.

And no i wouldn't hesitate on buying a new GM Car (not that i would), but unless it goes chapter 7, your warranty will still be there. Under C11 your warranty will still be okay, even if they get bought out by another company, it would be in a contract that they would have to support warranty for x-amount of time. Or worst case scenario might be a check to "cover" your repairs based on some magical warranty cost number. (highly unlikely)

I wouldn't bet any money on a chrysler lifetime warranty though. Although i can't think of a chrysler right now that you would want to keep for a "lifetime" anyway

They don't have anything else I really care for... no k5 type vehicle with a v6 or v8 and simple honest tcase, not even a s10 blazer type vehicle anymore that's not front wheel drive with a playskool transfer case. I think they don't care about us four wheel drive guys. But maybe it's Big Brother, and EPA standards and wanting to increase gas tax and of course gas isn't cheap, so the market for an enthusiast vehicle other than a cycle or gokart is pretty much screwed. I'll blame the government and gas prices for a large part of their dissapointing lineup.

As for cars, I dunno... generic transportation a Impala v6, sleeper would be Impala SS (still wrong wheel drive), but my choices would be a G8 (rear drive :) ) or a sky turbo. Don't get me going about the mallet skys. *drool*

The best 4x4 ever produced by GM is probably the hummer h-1 - ? still available as a fleet vehicle??

I would argue that 2cnd place goes to the Hummer H3 alpha - 5.3 liter aluminum block v-8 with an available 4:1 t-case and front and rear lockers and stock 33" tires.

Available now with huge cash rebates and 0% 60 month financing.
