Default Transfering title on traded vehicle

I just traded my truck for another truck as an even trade with no cash involved and was just wondering if I will still have to pay sales tax on the value of the truck when i transfer the title. Any helps appreciated, thanks.

thanks for all the help. i was pretty much thinking already just to put $500 down just to avoid any hassles, but thought i would check just in case since this is the first time i've ever traded a vehicle with no cash involved.

i have gone in there without a price on it, and they asked if i got it from a family member... i said yes. they said, ok, just put x.xx dollars on it and i paid like no tax basically.

i also did this when i transfered a title from my parents name to mine, but then it actually was family

Its an '01 f350 quad cab with an 8" lift on 37 toyo m/ts. All it has right now is a 3" straight pipe and a bully dog powerpup, but i'm about to put a new intake on, get a bigger/better programmer ( probably a bullydog tripple dog), have the trans built up, and a 5" straight pipe possibly out to stacks. I traded my orange one for it because it was just to hard to drive with only one arm since my left arm is still pretty much useless after my snowmobile crash.

I got a car from my uncle for free. They asked the value and I said nothing. It is junk. She said you have to put a value, it is worth something in scrap. So I put down $100. I told them I got it from a family member but I screwed up and said Uncle when she asked who. Has to be immediate family member (mother father brother sister grandparent)

you have to declare something and pay tax on something. Assume that you got a truck that was worth XXX more than the truck you traded, and pay tax on that. But keep paperwork on file of the trade in case it needs to be referenced.

They have the option of looking up book value if they think something is up, but you have to piss off the girl or shes having a bad day to do something like that.
