Default Ford Navistar 6.9 Diesel

Hey guys im looking into buying an 87 F250 with a 6.9 NA diesel motor. Im new to diesels and was just wondering if anyone had any experience with these motors, or if you could suggest a forum that i could read up info on. Thanks

They are good engines. A little on the slow side, but a aftermarket turbo does alot for them. Try www.dieselstop.com for more info.

you can get powerstrokes for that price

Nice truck, See you at www.oilburners.net And far more reliable than a powerstroke. Are there is any particulars you need to know Or you just browsing? The price is a bit high but if it's as clean as the ad states it will sell.

I've always wanted this bodystyle truck, and i havnt found one with a powerstroke in it.

Thanks for the info. I'm just not familiar at all with these older diesel motors, just trying to learn all i can before i invest in something.

The only drawback with the 6.9 is they had a failure prone glowplug system that liked to stick on and burn up glowplugs, Alot of people wire it up to a push button or convert it to the 88-93 7.3 solid state system. Other than that they are trouble free and unlike the 7.3 IDI are not prone to cavatition.
