I've been wheeling an XJ for several years but living where I do I end up spending a lot of time playing in the mud with full-size trucks so I decided to build one rig that I can use everywhere, mud, sand, trails, rocks.
I picked up a 76 Blazer I found on Craigslist, it was lifted with 35's and that's all I knew about it. The owner said the body wasn't in very good shape but I said if it's not falling off then it was good enough for what I wanted it for.
Well I took delivery of it and soon realized that the body is indeed falling off but I discovered that there were other surprises the K5 had for me that make up for it.
Here's what I've learned so far... It has a center bolt valvecover 350, a 4spd trans, np241, Trailmaster lift but I'm not sure if it's a 4" or 6", anybody help me out here? I found a list in the glovebox of mods supposedly done to the truck and here are the ones that I can remember.
Cam and Roller Rockers
$2200 Motor and Trans.
$1800 Front and Rears (axles)
$800 Trailmaster Lift
There was more and it totaled $7800 but I won't be keeping everything because I'm going to Truggy it!
This won't be a fast build because I don't have much money but I'll do my best and will be wheeling it in between downtimes so I gotta keep 'em short.
Here's the truck as I got it...
I bought these for $400. 16 wide, 35" Boggers
I kept the rims from my last Blazer and I'm glad I did although I will be selling or trading them for beadlocks.
Getting them mounted..
And their on!
I had to try them out..
A couple of nights later my buddy wanted me to pull his K5 with 44's out of the field to the barn so he could fix his driveshaft and yoke and I got stuck in his 44 ruts..
My D44 doesn't like my 16" wide Boggers I guess..
I guess now I get to upgrade my front axleshafts. With the money I get from selling my Cherokee and misc. parts from this truck like the top, stepbars, visor and anything else I can think of I will be able to move on with my build.
I'll post pics as I go.
