Default Quiet, but open cummins exhaust

I'm looking for a stainless, down pipe-back exhaust for my 04 Cummins.

I want a free flowing system but don't want it to be louder than stock(most systems seem like they will be loud).

Any recommendations?

no idea on the cummins, but I ordered a stainless magnaflow kit for my 7.3L and it was pretty close to the same noise as stock... which was too quiet for me. I pulled the muffler off and put the dump in front of the rear tire and I really didn't see much difference in EGT between the 2 while towing, so I'm betting it flowed pretty well too.

If you want quiet exh, stay with stock one.I had ss system from Summit Racing on my2001 Dodge and wasn't to loud. On my 2006 Dodge I have MBRP ss system from Extreme Diesel. www.xtremediesel.com All aftermarket systems will be louder .

Check with www.farmboysdiesel.com for some ideas. Stainless exhaust on a diesel is a waste of money. With the oil that comes out the tail pipe, you will never have a problem with the exhaust rusting. FBD sells a full 4" kit for a great price and Gus can recommend a muffler to keep the noise down. Just be prepared for it to be louder at first when you install it. Until it gets coated with soot, it will be louder, but will quiet down after a few months.

I use his 4" turbo back kit that eliminated the kitty cat. My muffler barks pretty good when you romp on it, but sounds like stock at normal throttle.

I've seen (and owned) plenty of diesels that had exhaust rotting from the outside of the pipe to the inside. SS kit was only about $80 more, so it was a no brainer.

any 4" with either a magnaflow or aeroturbine muffler would be good. it will be a little louder as with any aftermarket exhaust but it wont give you that drone you get with a straight pipe.

Compound turbos:)
Makes the rest of the exhaust quiet until you spool it, hehe.

Sorry, nothing constructive here.

i put a 4" silverline turbo back on my dads 99 24v and it certainly isnt loud. his stock stuff was rusted all the way through to the point that the tail pipe fell off. it was also rusted in the front of the muffler as well. i guess it depends how long you plan to keep the truck. i would probably spend the extra for stainless. i run regular aluminized steel on my 98 12v, but thats just a strait piece of 5" from the down pipe to the stacks.

Thanks for the input.

There is no question about the stainless. I bought the truck with the outlet flange of the muffler rotted out--rust will happen again.

I will have to check out a Magnaflow and Gibson system. I know a guy (matt's dad) that has a gibson on his 7.3 and that wasn't bad either.

As far as noise concern goes, I just don't want droning in the cab, or to start my truck up in the morning and rattle the windows when its parked between the houses in my neighborhood.

Phil----get me a parts list ready....a couple-a-beers and a credit card might get interesting!
