1-3am is the slowest time for the site, and that is when indexes are built.

Can it be moved to 3-5am, or is that difficult? There is frequently still a decent amount of activity at 1am and its only midnight for those silly people in Chicago and Indiana.

I just had another hard drive added to the server which will now use a non-compressed backup as opposed to zipping it which should resolve the issue.. We'll see tonight.

I also changed around some pretty intensive scheduled cleanup programs. Each night around 2:30am, the site is actually out of memory and starting to use swap which slows down the box big time .

thanks for the heads up.

Seven day average server load. You can see the difference from the software run time alterations last night:

Last ten hours of memory usage. The peaks mean its using swap which is bad. It only did it last night for roughly 84 minutes which is down from an average daily use of 384 minutes. If you look at 8-11 pm which is the most active time here, it never came close to running out, which is way better then before. Also have many more connections available so people don't have to wait in line for pages to be served. Average load time after the memory swap addition was .14 seconds per page compared with .37 the day prior.
