Default Transmission??

What Kind of Automatic transmission would bolt directly up to a 79' Lincoln 400 sb and still hold a PTO Winch??

I think you need to ask what the hell you just asked? number one no automatic has a pto take off. only a manual trans has a port for a pto. secondly if you are using a 400 lincoln you may consider finding a 4x4 truck trans for a ford and or Mercury pick up with a T case if you plan to use an auto. the older 203s had a port for a pto if I remember right so you could do a winch drive from there.

by the way ford didn't make a 400 sb. they are M engines same as big block 385 series bell housings.

1. i heard an allison trans would do the job
2. 1979 lincoln mark v(i think thats what its called) came with a 6.6l 400cid. am i wrong?

you are right. But it is a big block bell housing. 460,429,351m,400, all use the same bellhousing.

The 4r100 and 5r110 both had PTO options. Also the Allisons have two PTO provisions as well as the Fuller autoshift trans, and the 48RE has one too as an option. There are other autos but I think these will suffice. The older car and truck transmissions such a E4OD, A4OD, 4r70w, C6, C4, FMX did not.
