85 22R not running right...

Been working on a friends 85 22r equiped pickup. It ran like crap, he ended up replacing the magnetic pickup in the distributor and it was running great. Drove it all over town the other day with no problem. He got home, it sat for about 40 minutes, now it suddenly runs like crap again. Just like before the magnetic pickup.

Replaced the fuel filter, plugs, wires cap, rotor, checked the timing. It idles rough and wants to bog down down as you give it gas. It appears to be getting fuel just fine.

It looks like it's blowing fuel up out of the carb as it revs. Like maybe a stuck valve?

I haven't dealt with these particular motors much, anything I should check before tearing into it?

He should just get rid of it . . . . . . . . to me!

Seriously though, not sure what it may be. I only had the 22REs. When it ran like crap, I just changed the distributor cap and plug wires and it ws cured.

Mine does the same thing, except I've never been able to get rid of it. Checked all the sensors I could find, replaced a few, did a tune up, blah blah blah. The main problem was there was water getting into cap. Now its persistant and isnt going away. Someone told me the ECU went bad on theirs, but I havent been able to get a hold of one to check if thats my problem.

The only for sure fix I could find, is I'm putting a Chevy motor in mine.

What one are you going with? A 4.3 works fine and doesn't tempt you to overpower the drivetrain. Stick with the Toy t-case too.

Yep, 4.3 with either nv4500 or SM465 and the stock cases, maybe duals. I gotta find a job again before I can do any of it though
