Default Sloppy Shift Lever in '02 F350

Hello all, could use some advice. I have an '02 F350 with the 7.3. Auto w/ overdrive. The tranny seems to function perfectly, but the shifter lever on tree is sloppy. Sometimes difficult to find correct position and since it's my personal plow truck, becoming a nuisance real quick in this weather. Is this an issue with tranny? Linkage? Inside the tree? Easy fix? And lastly, this is my DD, so wondering if this is likely to leave me or my wife stranded somewhere? (live pretty deep into country). Would appreciate any advice you can offer on this... Thanks in advance. Oh yeah, pro'ly not gonna matter but it's got 120k on odo.

its up under the colum/dash. here is a screw that works loose over time, my dads trucks have done it and he tightens them and they come loose again. not hard to fix just kinda time consuming. ill ask him exactly where it is. but it wont leave ya stranded.

Default bushings

We have a fleet of f-250's where I work and we deal with this alot. There are a couple problems that happen with the shifters. The first is the Bushings for the shift tube wear out, all you have to do is drop the column (4 bolts) and you can change them fairly easy. Another thing we have een is the screws at the bottom of the shift tube on the column where the cable hooks up become loose and or fail out, you can reach those from under the dash without dropping the column. We have also had a few crack and break the shift tubes, usually after they have been loose for a while and the drivers try slamming them into park. It can leave you stranded if the tube breaks or both screws fall out of the shift tube/ cable conection.

Also another common problem we have is the overdrive button wiring wearing out on the column and the button not working or blowing the fuse for the gauges.

ive seen this the screws come lose take out and put lock tight on them thay should be fine

yea that about sums it up. i just got to talk to him about it. im actually replaceing the colum in my bronco in a few mins

Fixed!! The 2 screws (star head) near base of column under dash (just above steering shaft) worked loose. Tightening fixed it. Thanks for all the help!
