Default Need some advice "applying" for a job

I have been trying to get into a coaching (football) job for the past few months for any local high school. I definitely don't want to go back to my high school due to conflicts with the coaching staff. I didn't know how to go about it until i got the e-mail address for the Sky Line high school (one of the three Ann Arbor high schools) head coach. He is looking for young coaches that are still in college and i fit that criteria. I am just not sure how i should go about the e-mail since it is not really a formal application. It more of a "hey i heard you are looking for assistants, here i am".

Should i just give him my name, phone number, and interest in the job? Or should i go into detail; camps i attended, position i played, etc. I want to sound like i want the job but not desperate. This is a huge opportunity for me at my age because i want to be a high school teacher and coach football when i graduate. I know how to write a formal e-mail and consider myself a decent writer. I just don't know what to put in the e-mail. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

just send a email letting him know that you heard that he was looking and you would be interested in speaking to him about the position. Then from there you will know how to handle it depending on his response

Good Luck

Take him to dinner. If things go well, rape him.

Seriously, let him know a little info that shows how qualified you are, and get him either in person or on the phone for some face time for an actual interview. Email is still kind of a shitty way to apply or interview for a job (business etiquette)

Rape may help me in the immediate future, but long term it will most likely result in more problems for me.

I understand e-mail is an unprofessional way to try and get a job but he is an instructor here at Eastern and my roommate is in his class. I tend to over analyze things so i just went ahead and e-mailed him. My roommate said he is a cool guy so i'm not too worried about it not. Thanks for the responses

Always been curious as to what the success rate is for such actions.
