My neighbor works ( worked) for Dow and her job and a lot of others were eliminated. They get severance pay until Feb and than they are done.

this has nothing to do with the amount of manufacturing jobs we have shipped overseas in the past 30 years.

circuit city closes 456 stores. think of all the retail space that becomes vacant, thus landlords, building maintainance people, utilities, local tax bases, etc, loose $ too. the ripple effect will be very quiet but very powerful.
al gore will be happy though. retail outlets going out of business means fewer printed inserts in your newspaper. the good news is 14.5 trees/week will be saved.
we built and economy on credit. Fannie/Freddie operators screwed it up and bush gets all the blame. when i tell others that the tried to call out the execs at F&F and sdeal with the problem they tell me that 'bush didn't try hard enough"!

The fault lies on both sides of the aisle. There were plenty of warning signs, but as long as money was being made, no one wanted to rock the boat. Those few that did speak out were told 'it's a new paradigm, you just don't understand the new economy'.
