I was then sedated until I woke up about 4 am.

I was expecting more cuts when I first read it. It's impressive what they can do now. i bet you get away without any real visible scarring.

Anyway, I hope your recovery is speedy and you do regain most of the hearing back!

I was told they would be shaving behind my ear and cutting there and that is where the tissue for the graft would come. They must have been able to get some closer.

I asked them to leave a scar, he said he will not as he is also a plastic surgeon

Dude that's harsh! I had that surgery when I was 13, 26 years ago, after I woke up cross-eyed because an ear infection wouldn't respond to anti-biotics and spread to my optic nerve. They called it a Mastoid-ectomy and they removed something like 8% of my mastoid bone because it was just eaten away. The scar is a cool one but it isn't one that many people will see;especially since you're married and likely won't have a lot of women playing with your ears. I still remember the uique way the stitches felt when they pulled them out. No pain, but more tugging than most stitches and more of them.

My ear drum wasn't that far gone and I'm down to around 60% of the normal hearing in that ear but I had chronic ear infections for almost two years back then and I still get them every couple of years where my ear drum will burst.

Moral of the story is "take care of those silly pains in your ears early!"

Angry U are a complete wimp!

I had 4 of those surgeries between the ages of 8 and 13! i cant believe u would ever complain about one little tiny surgery and the fact that they "almost" put a prosthetic bone in ur ear. Boo Hoo, I have a prosthetic ear drum, b/c mine was gone. I have 1/2 of a bone left in my left ear. I have significant hearing damage b/c of this. For one of the surgeries, i was under anestisia for 6 hours, and they kept me at the hospital overnight but i was not allowed to sleep. I had endless throwing up just b/c i moved slightly! i was not even a teenager yet. I now am 15. I loved my hair, absolutely loved it. I could not do hardly anything with my hair for a while after the surgery b/c i had to have it shaved around my ears. I was misreable, and my bandages were way worse than urs. I wish i had pics, but i dont. If i did, then all of u guys would be amazed. I was just a little girl, i never asked for it to happen to me. You better be DAMN happy that u have had one, and it wasnt even that flippin bad! I never want to meet u ever in ur entire life, cuz i will prolly freak out on u. So yeah, im done now. But i am going to do this :

They said 1- 4weeks, he said mine was the worse he had ever seen. I have a feeling I will be calling work to tell them I will be off an extra week at least - which is not good. I had some important stuff going on.

I have a lifting restriction for a month, I am mot supposed to bend over, shower, or even get my head wet. The doc said sneezing wrong can reverse the surgery, and basically I am to sit on my ass for at least a week.

The doc mentioned that, but I quit using Q-tips about 2 years ago when the first infection of the outer ear canal hit. Nothing but warm water in the shower since.

No the surgeon that did the surgery works out of Genesys.

Mine was a Typanomastoidectomy. They said I am missing a lot of the 1st and second otic bones now, but I still should get 95% of my hearing back. Here is top hoping, and I thought the subs in my cars when I was 16 would have claimed my hearing.

Wha wha wha. You do know everyone reacts to ansthesia differently right? You do know that every surgery is different right? My blood pressure crashed dangerously low 3 times when they couldn't get the pain under control. My ear drum was 100% gone as well

Damn emotional teenagers STFU. I didn't ask for sympathy, I only wanted to tell people to stay on top of their ears.

STFU and get a grip on yourself. Wow your surgery was way worse and you were younger when it happened, big fucking deal. Jake didn't ask for sympathy, he shared a story.

Jeepfreak i'm glad that to this point your surgery has been successful.

I laughed my fucking ass off when you said your penis farted, thats good shit.

It was funny shit, my wife said the nurse almost fell down laughing, and my parents and friend out in the hallway lost it. There were others out there too

It has been a lot of years since I had a catheter... I forgot how much those suck.

This is lil'gr8whites mom. She was not asking for sympathy or being a emotional teenager. You were the one looking for sympathy and being a usually wimpy man who can not handle pain. I was there for all of this and more because we had to keep things from her and how bad it could be if something went wrong. She could have had total loss of hearing in her left ear and been forced to wear a hearing aid. She also had the possibility of facial paraylsis. A doctor misdiagnosed her for 3 years telling me I was a bad mother and was not giving her the medicine correctly. As a parent we need to go on instinct. I knew something more was wrong and I was correct. If we had waited another year the gangreen infection in her ear canal would had reached her brain. That is why she has 1/2 of a bone left in her ear. She just wants all of you to know it could have been worse and be thankful that is all you had to have and also as a parent just because you do not have a degree in medicine you know your kids and go by your instincts. She did not mean to make anyone angry but remember someone always has it worse than you!!
