Default The insanity that is my job...

well today started like any other, got to work made coffee, and listened to the forman piss off the next guy in the door

in my case I got to drive today. I was out on the oval doing my de-icing laps. 3 inches of snow, then add salt = mush. to say the least me and my buddy had matching 2wd drive pick ups doing laps. it was slow going at first. top speed was 55-60. and was all you could do to hold the wheel in the slush ruts. by the time we got the 4th lane opened up the sun was coming out. it took till luch time 11:30 to have the whole of the 5th lane open, it was rough going. after lunch it was fun driving in the water at 80mph, as it kicked up behind the truck the sun hit it just right and we had rainbows coming of the trucks for a 100' behind us.

At least you get to see the circles you get to go around in at work all day. The rest of us just get to do it figuratively.

Why would you not plow or otherwise clear the track with machinery rather than your tires? Seems very inefficient to me.

Plowing would damage the road surface. I doubt Vipers like potholes much at 180.

I got to drive my work truck (1995 ranger) with no brakes to the shop about 3 miles away today. That and I showed a couple of fitters how not smart they are.

Seriously, its 12in dia. ss pipe, how hard is that to find?

Not that is is as important but we plow the track at the State Police Training facility. No damage done to the track at all. We also plow the center square thing. However, we do not plow the skid pad.

The police even have a plow on a Suburban to do some themselves. Then they run the track with the cars to clear what is left. We also salt the track.

I would think that you could engineer a rubber or plastic like plow that would remove the bulk of the snow without rutting the track. At least do a better job than driving over it for hundreds of laps. I dont want to get into the efficiency issue again.....

Well they kept asking if they were pork. And i announced at the beginning that indeed, they were all pork but we had hamburger dogs (beef). So every kid from that point on that asked whether our hot dogs were pork or not got a "no" and a juicy Christian Skinless Frank in their mouth.

My manager told me to do it because they're such a pain in the ass. Hopefully they don't find out because I'm coaching their football team this year and i don't want Jihad declared on me

Thank you for pointing that out. we do have plows, BUT we have to use care clearing the tracks the oval has a concave surface from the 3rd lane out. its 36* at the top in the 6th lane. so if you dropped a regular plow you'd grind int othe surface with the corners of the blades.
we do however have two road graders currently out fitted with 1" thick nylon blade extentions. they are 14' wide and do a great job but smear the snow and leave about 1/2" every where they go. you have to remember we have so many varying surfaces its imposible for one machine to do everything.

as for me today I had to work the Impact simulator today. three other guys had to drive.

Thanks for making my post most gay. I stated the "rainbow effect" due to the massive amounts of water being tossed into the air.

consider that if we closed the ovale to let the graders out they would take hours to open the road back up. we have 3 shifts and about 20 cars per on the oval alone. and thats only 4.7 of our 52 miles of paved roads, plus 100 miles of dirt roads & trails.

with 5 guys plowing which section would you have them plow first?
