Default Need Help in Chicago!

Hey everyone, I am a new member and I need some help with my truck.

The front axle in my 97 Ford diesel took a dump on me. I cannot move forward in Neutral so I figure its probably the gears in the front TTB are F-ed.
Does anyone in Chicago with a shop or back yard with some tools want to help me out and make a couple bucks? I know a cheap tow truck that could get me over there and hopefully I can find someone that knows how to open one of these TTB fronts up and work on the gears. I figure that would be the cheapest route. Any info or help would be great.

Thanks alot, Lew from Chicago 7738926621

I'm not sure I understand your problem. You said, "I cannot move forward in Neutral". Do you mean with the transmission in Neutral, or do you mean with the transfer case in Neutral.

Actually, as you probably know, the vehicle won't be able to drive forward with either the transmission or the transfer case in Neutral. Do you mean you are trying to push it forward in Neutral, and the vehicle won't move? If that's the case, it's possibly a stuck brake, rather than a driveline problem.

Do you have locking hubs on the front axle? Do you have a traction aiding device (locker of LSD) in either front or rear axle? If you jack up the front end (and then the rear end), and put the t-case in neutral, can you rotate the tires by hand?

remove front driveshaft
remove hubs and replace with manual hubs (under $200 at autozone)

Although I'm guessing it more of a brake related failure and not gears, unless the gears have been howling rediculously loud for a long time
