Default LCD vs. DLP

What's the difference. School me on the differences please. Which is better? Was just screwing around and found this http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ...7073#prodspecs which seems like a good price at $1k.

2 different beasts in this case.

LCD - Flat panel TV where a Liquid Crystal display is backlight, good image.

DLP - Projection TV. 3 DMD (digital mirror devices, one each for red, green and blue) are used to create the pixels in the image and then are recombined through optics and projected onto the tv surface

in a TV type fixture in your home you wont notice a huge difference. I would go LCD over DLP simply for longevity reasons.

in a projection (projector) setting DLP wins hands down. LCD projectors you will be able to the the indivdual pixels (from close up). A DLP will be VERY clean and clear.

Thanks. In reading the wiki steveo posted it sounds like the samsung DLP's may out live an LCD.

For the price, the DLP's are hard to beat. I have two 50" samsung 720p's and love them. I'm waiting for the superbowl sales to pick up my new one, 61" samsung 1080p DLP. You may get a slightly better picture with the LCD, but I can't hang the TV on the wall in my room, and because of the huge price difference....the DLP is the way to go for me.

I think he was talking about projection in both cases. Not a flat screen
