Default 96 Jimmy starts hard/runs bad when cold

1996 GMC Jimmy, 4.3L V6

Here is the Deal:
When its cold, (under 40*) it starts REAL hard, coughs and sputters sometimes i have to keep it reved up to keep it running
Other times after it sputters to life, it will idle at 2000 RPM and continue climbing with no real way to get the rpms to drop.

And the other issue, which i believe is related..

Even after it is up to operating temperature the engine will cut out..at any speed, the Tach will drop to zero, and the ABS and Parking Brake lights on the dash come on. If i am rolling along pretty good, it will come back to life and continue on, but if it happens at slower speeds, i usually end up on the side of the road and have to restart it. This morning was a little hairy as it happened in town.

FWIW, i have new fuel pump, filter, 60 PSI of fuel pressure, new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, new MAF sensor new TPS, new alternator, new cam position sensor, etc, lots of new parts.

I am wondering if this is one them port injection engines? if so its got a fuel rail set up under the intake and they leak when they get old. they can and will make it run like crap. the only other thing that comes to mind is your EGR could be stuck open, they carbon up bad and become stuck.

i've also seen simply the egr gaskets leak very bad. computer can't compensate for it. check for vacuum leaks. spray brake clean or carb clean around intake and egr while running and see if the engines tone changes or it revs up or dies. if it does then you found your leak.
