Default MMmmmm......Merlot......

So who here drinks wine? I just started and have been buying merlot. Opened a bottle of Redwood Creek tonight. One of the better ones I've tried lately.

What's your choice for a good, cheap (under 20 bucks) red wine?

I sense complete total ghey. I drink wine, but only to get laid by the woman. I would never post a thread that I actually drink wine on purpose because the only wine I did ever drink was Night Train, but that was before I knew what good booze was.

My favorite <$20 is the Zinfandel by Rabbit Ridge (and no, not White Zinfandel)

"rancho zabaco" or "dancing bull" brands and their cabernet or zinfindal types.

kendal jackson is okay but not as good as the above.

some good values at trader joe's.

Sutter Home White Zin is so the Busch Lite of wine

It does seem to be a lot of people's transition into the wine world though.

We have some "semi-sweet" wine from Georgia (Russia) that is the absolute best wine I have ever tasted.

It's a White wine: Sutter Homes "Mascoto" Even those that are not wine drinkers will like it. Meijer's is the best place to find it....

I'm with nuzzy on the penguin and barefoot. they're cheap but decent wines to have around the house for general consumption. I'm a big port fan best i've had is an quinta do noval 40 year tawny. but wares and six grapes make more reasonably priced ports. 12-25 per bottle at most stores. I like the Estancia Merlot 1995. it's about 15 a bottle last i checked. If you're looking for something fun to drink with people that aren't usually wine people pick up a bottle of "hotrod cherry" from peninsula cellars by travers city, i've seen in in a few of the better wine and liquor shops around. It should run about 12 a bottle. it's a fun tart fruity wine.

also look at some of the magazines and the like, with the current economic situation there seems to be a lot of blind tests of cheaper wines vs. more expensive where the cheaper wine is rated better. debunking the concept that because the price is higher that it is obviously a superior wine.

Drink whiskey, its good for you. Or atleast thats what the waitress down at work tells us. She ususally makes fun of the guys who drink wine and anything more with more than 2 ingredients.
