Warn winch with Thermometric switches

So, my PowerPlant winch died on me...it's giving me the old "flashing red light" on the controller which is supposed to mean the thermometric switch has been tripped. The pisser is that it didn't die while using it...just didn't work one day when I was going to air up the wife's tires....would winch in, not out...and now it doesn't even do that.

Tech is saying the switch needs to be replaced and I need to ship the winch to a service center in PA.

Has anyone ripped into one of these or similar 9.5 model to bypass the switch (the tech said it was possible to at least make sure that is the issue).

I'm not shipping a 100 lb. winch to PA until I'm absolutely sure I can't do it myself....and it is almost 2 years old and not under warranty.

something similar like this happened to my 9.5SI, the mosfet controller went bad. I had to ship mine to Warn in Oregon. While the shipping out there sucked Warn completly rebuilt my winch, respooled the x-line, put on new power cables, gave me a ton of stickers and a few owners/operators manuals that were hand highlighted. They did all of this work in 1 day and shipped it back out to me for free I love Warn.

technically his was a refurbished one
in a lot of cases a refurbed one is better than brand new....it was gone over by hand by a tech, and not just on an assembly line with an overpaid union yuppie (or robot) whichever the case may be.

Well...it's off the Jeep. Guess I'll figure out how to package it up and send off to the repair center in PA.

Change of plans...ran into Dave from Cascade 4WD at the Two Trackers meeting and he is ripping into it. He's not an authorized repair center, but my warranty was up almost a year ago, he's right around the corner (no shipping) and the guy knows his crap.

Support your local vendors!

Dave rocks.

He spent the bucks to ship some motor mounts to me because I was too busy to stop out a pick them up after he ordered them ad inspected them for me. I'll definitely go there for more stuff. (if I ever move back to MI) Until then I'll just watch him go down the track.

Good luck with the winch.
