Default Why shouldn't we pay taxes on health care?

We pay income tax on our earnings. We pay taxes on other benefits such as sick or vacation days. Why shouldn't we pay taxes on health care benefits paid for us by employer? After all, it's part of a compensation for our work.

Why does the amount of taxes I pay be different on the form of payment. Let's say Joe's total compensation is $120,000 per year.

If Joe is paid the $120k as salary, goes to buy health insurance for $20k, he has to pay taxes on $120k.

If Joe is paid $100k as salary, and the employer buys health insurance for $20k, he has to pay taxes on only $100k.

How is this fair?

Is that not raising taxes on everybody that has employer based health care?

Talk about killing incentives for accepting employer-based health care.

So the Good Senator from Arizona wants to raise my taxes.... Please explain why that is good for me...

I am undecided. Please show me why this is good in terms that are accurate and that I can understand.

I don't care about McCain or Obama, and this post is not about that. This post is about the fairness of taxing compensation differently based on who pays for health care.

What I want to know is why do lawmakers consider themselves above us somehow in that they deserve socialized medicine, the best likely of the planet on our dime, but somehow we're not worthy. Bullshit

Why would you WANT to pay more taxes, ESPECIALLY for health care. Health care costs should be tax deductible like most of your other living expenses. There's a reason health savings accounts are taken from pre-tax earnings.

Why on earth would you want to pay more taxes? You want to fork over more money to a government that has proven they don't know how to spend the money they have?

Your argument is rather silly, we should be going the other direction - Joe who makes 120k, gets taxed on 120k, but spends 20k towards insurance should be able to write that off as a deduction. Probably already can, or at least partially. Needs to be done in a way that doesn't encourage employers to drop coverage though.
