I thought it was an interesting story so I looked a little further.

Seems like a normal guy working with others trying to do a patriotic thing but getting bogged down in the federal bureaucracy. The following story was originally published in 2003 when Haines was actually working out the logictics of getting the stone in the right hands. At the time of publication, he had the deal brokered for the Marble, arrangement for transportation and was looking for a sculpter who would donate time. He had also, appearantly, made the obligatory disclaimers to the Arlington National Cemetary.

Maybe this will get some more wheels now that the story has re-surfaced. Get a precious monument repaired and save the tax payers millions.

We need to hire a new committee and conduct tons of research and draft a bunch of documentation and after a few votes and a supreme court decision, maybe we can overturn this silly rule and start accepting donations.

Less government! Smaller government!

I agree. Big government leads to these kinds of problems all the time. Lets vote for a smaller government this election! Smaller government leads to less frivolous spending.

I so don't want to turn this into a discussion about the upcoming elections. Lets take this to another thread if you want to debate it.

This post is about the "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" in Arlington National Cemetary.
