A serious question about our next president.

The political affiliation of the president's office follows a cycle of and so on.

There are also many people (all , I'm sure ) that state that a republican president repairs the damage the do, and when there is a democrat in office, they ride out the wave of prosperity the created while putting us is a poor position for the next republican to fix.

My question is - how much do you think public opinion matters in the big picture of how our economy does? Let's ignore all other factors.

i.e. In our current situation, we have a republican and there are "threats" of a recession in newspapers and in the media. We elect McCain and and public opinion continues to fear further economic downturn...

however

If Obama gets elected, the rumors and fears will die down, if not disappear (unless you watch Fox news ) and the economy will start to recover just on consumer confidence alone.

Anyone know of any studies like this?

Ask yourself this. What is public opinion on the price of fuel, or oil, and is it affecting the price, oil is still over 100% higher than it was a year ago when it already exceeded it's normal trading highs by 300%.

I'll offer my theory: the choice of or is correlated with economic changes - but it does not cause economic changes (the old "correlation does not equal causation" discussion from Stats 101).

When the economy is doing well, the majority of folks vote so they can try to capitalize on the good economic times. When the cycle turns and the economy tightens up, they vote for a so that they get lots of social support (extended unemployment, welfare, etc...). This means that the party in power is a "contra indicator" because when it changes, people will want the opposite.

So. it's correlation - not causation... :)

After working with the Morons coming out of the so called "higher education" from this state, I would gladly work instead with monkeyevil, or farm_boy.

for you engineers that have never worked in the field................a Carhartt is a brand name of clothing that makes products for people who work with their hands. (to help people stay warm, dry, and protected while working in the elements) This is not a clothing line that you wear to the mall with the waste band hanging around your knees.........or clothing for the Red Carpet that is shown on the wonderful Boob tube for us all to see.
There is a story behind this statement, but it is to long to post.

Interesting - I had alway heard different stereotypes:

Republicans are generally well educated with good jobs not wanting to pay high taxes or have more government control. I'm disregarding the poor stereotype that all are wealthy business owners that don' pay taxes)

Democrats are people that want the government to take care of more of our responsibilities through taxation and more programs. (I'm disregarding the poor stereotype of Democrats being lazy and wanting handouts from our government)

Seriously, I had not heard most people that vote republican are very uneducated.

i would tend to disagree in many cases, i would say the uneducated vote equally when it comes to voting for or , you got your hicks and country bumkins voting republican,(ironically they would be the poorer class the are suppose to represent) and you got your hippies/ psychedelic drugs users who vote democrat,(this one makes a little more sense since they live more communally thusly causing them to vote democrat). So all in all stereotyping voters is just stupid.
