What is the bigger threat?

So, what do you feel is the bigger threat to the US? Is it a nuclear capable Iran, or the US taking military action to prevent them from becoming nuclear capable? In my mind, I see it coming down to only one of these two options. The Iranians are not going to stop working on their nukes. But, if we use military options, we run a very real risk of forcing Russia and China to join forces against us. Both countries have very large economic ties to Iran. Both countries are against any sort of economic sanctions against Iran. To me this leaves the US in a Catch-22 situation. We can NOT run the risk of pissing off either the Chinese or the Russians. China has the ability to crush our economny in one trading day in the global currency markets. Russia will just sell their arms to the highest bidder. Oh, wait. They already do that. They will just make it easier for them to be used against us. At this point, our military is stretched beyond its capability to react to another large scale military confrontation without compromising security in other areas of the middle east. What do we do? Have the leaders of the US marched us blindly into a no-win situation?

Discuss.

Im gonna kinda stay out of this one because im not nearly educated enough to post a worth while opinion (not that thats stopped anyone before...) however, without the U.S. chinas market would be crippled also, if not quite as bad as the U.S.

Nuclear energy allows for less pollution, less fuel costs and a surplus of natural resources for everybody. Our Gov't is retarded about the word Nuclear.

Did you even read my thread? WTF does nuclear generation have to do with Iran trying to create nuclear weapons that could/would be used the US or any westernized population?

I think we're fooling ourselves if we think we can actually keep nukes out of the hands of every nation that hates us. All we'll get by trying is more nations hating us. I don't know what the best way to handle it is, but what we're doing doesn't seem to be working.

And I'l not sure who would come out ahead in a economic war with China. Us, because so much of what we use comes from there, or China because it's us buying all the stuff that keeps thier economy going.

I fully believe that we would be crushed by the Chinese if they decided to take us out. The next world war will be fought in the marketplace and is already occuring to some degree. China owns an astronomical amount of our government issued debt, as well as having a huge position in the US dollar. If China decided to sell their Dollar holdings, it would easily crush the value of the dollar to next to nothing in a single day. Think of it in terms of pesos vs. dollars. We would no longer be the top player in the world economy. We would be behind several other countries. This would impact China to some extent, but not at the level it would hurt us. They have the ability to produce what they need to survive. We have lost the ability to produce in the US. We rely on other countries to export their goods to us. If we no longer have the ability to buy those goods, we will be crippled and forced to our knees. It is a scary position that our leaders have allowed our country to be in. Makes it a little easier to understand why China takes such a large interest in our elections and why they make huge donations to campaign funds.

You sir are officially dumb. The US wants to stop Iran from ALL nuclear activity which started with the building of a nuclear power plant for their own electricity! Our gov't thinks that they should have no nuclear powered anything! So that's WTF it has to do with it.

Thats true to some extent, but I think we'd survive through a shortage of cheap plastic toys and low cost tools from harbour freight. I'm pretty sure we're still a net exporter of food. Oil is our biggest concern.

I think wve stured the pot enough for a while. We should just sit back for a while. if Iran prduces nukes we have em too and weel be back to a coldwar like stand off, they wont shoot cuz we will we wont shoot cuz they will. if we want to push this thing our country can get by alone for a while, tap into the oil reserves, stop selling fuel to cina (that'll hurt them back) and get all our factories up and runnin. the american war machine is a devistateing aset. during WWII Hitler was shocked how fast we could build ships, and knew it wold change the war.

Ok, Einstein. From what I have been able to find out, the US doesn't give 2 shits about Iran merely producing electricity thru nuclear means. The big concern is their interest in equipment that is used to enrich uranium way beyond what is needed for use in nuclear reactors. The big issue is most certainly focused on Iran's intent to become a nuclear capable military force. I hardly think I am dumb. But, coming from someone in the center of the educational universe, I am probably just too stupid to realize I'm dumb. :miff:

wrong russian was not a religious state like Iran. The radical muslims are out of their minds. It wont be a match for match build up to be competitive, it will be used by iran to spread influence of radical islam through the middle east, surely to beat up on Isreal. Dont count on Israel not using the nuke on Iran. That is a very real posibility.

Yes it does you need to read what the US is saying to the Iranian gov't. They want them to outsource their nuclear power! Iran right now has no where near the ability to make enriched uranium in the amount needed for a nuclear bomb and they are by many estimates 10 years away from having a nuclear capable weapon. Right now Iran has only been successful in making 15% enriched uranium and it needs 80% to make a bomb. They need 17 times the capacity of their current program to make it work. They also have stated numerous times that they do not intend to make a nuclear weapons program and they only want to use it for domestic power generation.

So now that you have the news from Einstein you can go tell the rest of hillbilly world the real news
