get an acer off Tiger or newegg. then go to acer and buy the warranty. best bang for the buck.

i paid 2300 for my last one, and that was with a massive warranty and a docking bay. but this laptop works flawlessly, never have a single problem, and hp will pick it up and have it back in 3 days if it breaks.

My then-new AMD-powered HP went through my entire deployment (starting in 2004) and is still going. At least half the company went over with HP's and they were well-supported from a warranty aspect, too. It was under $1000, IIRC. I'm not going to replacing it unil something catastrophic happens, but I will definitely go with a widescreen model the next time I buy a new one. Really makes for better DVD viewing, which I did a lot of.

I would also look for something that has some kind of high-def inputs (if they are making laptops like that now). I traveled recently and the TV where I went was old-school enough that I still could not hook my PS3 up to it with all the adapters I had.

so far the HP is kicking everyones ass. Im not into gaming. so it will mostly be used for surfing the intraweb day to day and some random porno. anyone dealt with refurbished stuff? overstock had some "refurbish" HPs.

Plus their little "overheating problem" because some dumb fukc in asia didn't understand that less is more with thermal paste. I don't know if that ever got resolved, but it sure made for an interesting burn mark if you set it in your lap for too long.

I got my HP now I'll probably get an mac mini when I get the money.

mine's a Gateway and it works just fine for me. i can stalk you guys with no problems at all.
my daughter has a mac and won't own anything else. i also have a desktop but it was custom built for me by my husband. i use that for backups when i have too many top secret documents on the laptop.

no, i take tons of pics - about 500/week and they're all still on here along with several thousand songs and i'm not slowing down yet.

my husband uses those industrial dells that you can drop and they keep going. they weigh a ton, though.
