it may cost a little more to do the cage right but remember medical bills are expensive as hell any more.

i have seen exocages around the body (not as a rollcage just body protection) made out of 1.5" pipeing bent and welded togeather, bought from like home depot or lowes.

it was in hawaii and they only did it because the cost of tubeing and steel from steel yards there was outragus.

i wouldent sudjest that!
but exhaust pipeing are you nuts!

If he wants to save the cash, he can use motorcitydak's plans of using PVC tube and fittings.

If he doesn't PLAN on rolling it, what's going to happen if someone t-bones him and the whole mess turns into a few ginsu knives springing into action into his face!?

Sounds like you don't need to be a part of this guy's plot to raise my insurance premiums!

x1,000,000,000

don't put your name on that piece. if he's going to do that he may as well fill it with marbles and nails to make it more interesting when it breaks. tell him to sell the jeep and drive a short bus, making sure to wear his helmet.

If you weld it and he rolls it is your ass and your going to have to live with that. I flipped mine off test hill at silver lake and it didnt move a fraction of an inch and I walked away with a great big smile on my face. Thank you Shaine. Speed Fixx Fabrications. 616-886-8146

I have actually seen a cage built like this. A buddy of mine was lookin at a supercharged mustang, the owner also owned an exhaust shop.

We went and looked at it and I told him not to buy it. It had a 2.5" exhaust pipe cage and the front bars and rear bars were not even welded to the floor. Not that it would matter, but the hoop was welded to the floor and the rear bars went into a speaker opening and the front bars you could wiggle back and forth.

Well he bought it anyway and we cut the cage out immediately. It was too good a deal to pass up. The guy had about $20,000 into it and sold to it to my buddy for $6400.

After it was stolen we swapped the drivetrain into a coupe, straightened the body out and painted it, then he sold it to another friend. That car is fast.
Low 10 second car.

But please never never do this. (exhaust rollbar)

If it is worth doing it is worth doing it right from the first time.

I know guys that use exhaust pipe to lay out and design roll cages. But when they go to build it they use the correct steel tubing.

Having this would be way worse than no cage at all. About the only thing and exhaust pipe cage would do is make sure that he was critically injured in a rollover and not just bruised. Good idea, remind me not to wheel anywhere near this guy. Something might fall off his truck he superglued on instead of welded because the glue was cheaper than a welder.

I believe DOM of the same Dia. and double the wall thickness would be about 6 times as strong as exhaust tube.
