Hey, wait a sec.

They aren't THAT bad, provided you either A) get one new and know exactly what you're getting into with the maintenance or B) get a used one that's already had the 12k mile service done, valve lash set, timing belts checked/adjusted, etc. Every bike is a piece of crap if you don't take care of it, no matter what brand. Ducs just happen to be like the super model girlfriend... better give them constant attention and care, otherwise she won't let you ride her.

it however looks like the price of purchase is going up, which I suspected it might.

and my brother who is potentially selling the 599 is flaky enough, he may change his mind as well, meaning I may yet still end up back to square 1. that being said, I thought it might be prudent to seek some advice before having either bike land in my lap, so the thread was still worthwhile to me.

This is the perfect bike for you! Cheap and reliable! I have all Icon gear (helmet, jacket, pants, gloves) and have no complaints.

I just bought a Joe Rocket Pheinox 5.0 vented mesh jacket this past week and it is AWSOME!

I would sugest Rocky's Great Outdoors in Burton for your gear, not only because I work there, but because we have a huge sportbike section.

Once you get it, Porky's Clubhouse (Just north of Rocky's on Saginaw) has a Sport Bike Night every Wens. night from 6pm-??

Ride safe, ride smart, hope to see ya on the road! I'm easy to spot, Black and Red old ass dual sport with street tires, wearing rocket gear. lol.
